S1189. March 1st.
Osborne Villa.
Before I realized it, two years passed by in a blink of an eye. The first couple of months signaled my second birthday, which made it S1188. Then the whole year passed pretty uneventfully, just me being raised in a new family. A family I had now accepted as my own. No longer was I Naoto of Planet Earth, but Naoto of Zemuria. I found it funny that I kept the same name when I crossed over. And once S1188 ended, S1189 happened. I was on the cusp of turning four years old, but if we're being technical, I'm currently thirty-eight months old now.
As much as I wanted to be funny right now, I couldn't.
Presently, a violet-haired and golden-eyed boy could be seen running through the hills and trees of the thick forest resting beyond the Osborne Villa. It stretched onward for miles and miles.
To the very, very far north was the Transcontinental Railroad, which would eventually take you all the way to Roer and the rest of northeast Zemuria, including Nord Highlands.
"But seriously, I just had to utter the word "Train"...", I said, letting my feet do the work for me. I am not sure if the Gamer System is at play here, but Father suddenly put me on his Training plans the moment I turned three. Talk about relentless. I wasn't expecting this until I turned five! But even then, if you put this into the perspective of a martial arts family, they start training their young as soon as they're able to stand. Turning five years old might even be too late in the face of geniuses.
Now I don't know if I consider myself a genius despite Father praising me as one, but man, me and my big mouth.
I heard a sudden ding sound off inside my head. At least for this, it's still music to my ears.
[Ding! Gamer Naoto has successfully run 10/10 kilometers. Daily Quest has been completed. You have been awarded 1 Stat Point.]
[Ding! Gamer Naoto's Status Window has been updated. Would you like to review it?]
'Of course.', I thought, prompting my Gamer System's Status Window to appear. Most of the time I just let it appear inside my mind, but because Father now lets me do this Daily training on my own, I could allow the Status Window to appear before me. Literally no one was around right
You guessed it. My Gamer System might have been the one at fault here. The moment I turned three, this stupid Daily Quest triggered.
Accomplish a task during the given twenty-four hours, and you get rewarded for it. Pretty simple, right?
If only it didn't require me to run ten kilometers a day. Seriously, this is hell mode. How could a child like me run six miles on a daily basis!? I'm just asking for death here. But like I said, perhaps it was because of the Gamer System, and partly due to Father's pushing. It saw I had enough energy to actually run six miles a day.
At least I didn't go unrewarded for it. While the reward might be simple, it's what kept me going since twenty-nine days ago. I've never had a break. This would consume most of my morning, and then during the day I would hang out with Rean and my mother Kasia. I doubt any normal parent would let their three year old son wander into the back forest alone, Kasia would likely observe me from afar. I also made sure not to wander too deep into the forest, as there could definitely be unwanted monsters lurking.
I digress. I looked at my Status Window. Not much had changed, apart from those few Skills showing up, and me gaining Stat Points that I can spend how I wish. That was the beauty of the Gamer System. You could choose what route you want to go. That's also what the Trailsverse offered. You could literally build a character into any role that you wanted!
You wanted Rean to be a tank? You could. You wanted Rean to be a mage? You could. You wanted Rean to dodge attacks? You could. So on, and so on. The potential was endless. If there was one thing the Trailsverse lacked, it was Classes. Something that clearly defined what a person could do.
I liked this aspect of freedom. Letting you do whatever you want. That's why I don't have a reason to really hold onto these stats. I could even distribute them evenly across the board. And I'm considering doing this. That way, if I don't go one route, I wouldn't fall behind on another.
Now with that in mind, my Status Window goes as follows.

I can see quite a few Menus now that weren't previously available. They all should be pretty self-explanatory. Some I can't even use yet, but will down the line.
The important thing to note for my combat power, is the Attack or Arts Damage. This is the final factor before all the Trails math happens where external factors get applied, and then you put it against your Target's defense. This calculation does change from game to game, but it did give me a calculation when I reviewed my Status Window for the first time.
The biggest factors for me right now would be Element Efficacy, Critical Hit, and whatever bonus stats Equipment will give. There's a whole bunch of shit that comes later on which really boost one's damage, like Combat Orbments and Quartz.
I started out with five points, and then from January 31st to March 1st of S1187, that was a period of twenty-nine days. My Gamer System did not increase my stats one bit during this, nor give me any additional points to spend.
Not until that Daily Quest sprung up out of nowhere. I know it's looking after me. There's a lot of dangers around Zemuria, unlike my previous life. You got war. You got magic. You got science-out-of-your-ass mechs. That's right. MECHAS. Then you got gods and demonic beings, and devils. Every single aspect of fantasy exists here. I don't think anything is left out.
That's why I won't slack off. I can't afford to do so. If I want to secure my footing here in my new life, I need to learn to protect myself first and foremost. In a way, I am grateful for the system to kickstart my training, whether or not Father was involved. I also read the Daily Quest details. It was very simple.
[Daily Quest - Version 1.]
Duration: 1 Year. 24 hour cooldown.
Task 1: Run 10 kilometers (6 miles) per day.
Reward: 1 Available Stat Point.
Accomplished: 29/365 Days.
Hidden Requirement: Do the Daily Quest every day to unlock Version 2.
It's as you see it, it's the One Punch Man routine, but obviously tweaked. It's initially having me focus on running for now, and it will likely have me shift to other portions of my body to get the full experience in. And Father said if I deliver good results, I'll get to witness combat from him firsthand! I can't help but be excited, you know?
And something to keep in mind, this new reality of mine isn't turn-based. It's full on action. There were a couple anime adaptations of Trails, which showcased how Combat Orbments and Crafts were used in live combat. It should play out similarly to here. Later down the line, you can actually preset Arts in Daybreak onward, I knew that from those promotional videos. But until then, we have to manually slide our fingers across the Lines to trigger which Art we want to cast.
I'm sure Father will go into detail, as I already expressed interest in learning how Combat Orbments work. It should be similar to the glorified pocket watches you see in Sky. It might not be the same model, as those are Generation IV versions. There's still over a decade till Sky, so we might still be on Generation II or Generation III models.
For now, Father is content with me doing my daily running. I am not going to let him down. I'll not use these Available Points now. Instead, once those 365 days pass, I'll use them all in one go!
Gotta go fast!
