Chapter 48 - A hug that terrifeis me

Y/n POV

I walked into the living room and looked around—Kelly wasn't here.

"Oh! I forgot to get her number," I mumbled to myself, then headed to my room. After a quick bath, I made something to eat. Just as I was about to take a bite, my phone buzzed.

I grabbed it. Of course—it was Mr. Annoying.

I sighed and answered the call. "Did you send Kelly?"

Mr. Annoying: "Yeah."

"Fine."

Mr. Annoying: "Well, I called because Kelly's outside the house. She doesn't have a key. Could you please open the door for her?"

Before I could say anything else, he hung up.

I jumped to my feet and hurried to the door. As I opened it, there she was—Kelly.

Kelly: "H-Hey, I was about to press the bell."

"Yeah, actually… sorry, I forgot to give you the spare key," I said, stepping aside to let her in.

She walked in, and I quickly headed to Emma's room to grab the extra key. I came back and handed it to her.

"Here… You must be tired."

She nodded.

Kelly: "Ah—yeah, actually… it's been a long day."

I sighed softly. "I'll make something for us."

She shook her head.

Kelly: "No, I ordered pizza."

I gave a small nod and sat down beside her.

"Do you want to freshen up?"

Kelly: "No, I took a bath at work."

I turned on the TV, and a few seconds later, she leaned her head gently on my shoulder.

"Hey… I'll give you a head massage."

She immediately sat upright, flustered.

Kelly: "N-No, no no—I'm good, I don't want a head massage."

I sighed.

"It's okay, Kelly. You're my friend now," I said, flashing my best puppy eyes with extra sparkle smile.

Kelly: "Aaah, don't give me that look! That's illegal. And yeah, I'm okay."

Just then, the doorbell buzzed.

"Aah, must be the pizza!" I jumped up like a superhero about to save the day, but Kelly grabbed my wrist.

Kelly: "Nope. Sit. You stay. I'll get it."

I blinked. "Am I a golden retriever now?"

She smirked and walked to the door. A few minutes later, we were camped out on the couch, eating pizza and watching some random movie.

Between bites, she suddenly wrapped her arms around me in a big hug.

Kelly: "You're so cute and soft, Y/N."

I choked on my soda. "Really? But I wanna be like you! You know—cool, beautiful, a little dangerous. And that abs."

Before she could answer, the screen lit up with a dramatic slow-motion scene.

Kelly: "Ooh look, it's Coel! This is his romantic movie!"

*Mr annoying huh!!* I rolled my eyes

"I think we should watch somethin—" I didn't even finish my sentence. She snatched the remote out of my hand like a ninja.

Kelly: "No, wait—he's about to kiss the actress!"

I froze.

Suddenly, I felt that awkward twinge crawl up my spine. Ugh, not that kiss again. I didn't want those annoying lips haunting my mind, but here we were—Coel, on screen, doing that exact thing.

I swallowed hard as he kissed the actress. My eyes shifted to Kelly... and of course, she was watching me instead of the movie.

"Wh-What?" I asked, trying to play it cool.

Kelly: "You're red, Y/N."

I instantly cupped my cheeks with both hands. "Stupid! I am not!"

I jumped up to escape the scene (and the judgment), but she burst out laughing behind me.

Kelly: "Yes, you are!"

"NO, I AM NOT!!" I yelled back, then stormed into my room and slammed the door behind me.

I leaned against it, face burning. "This is so embarrassing…"

I don't know why... but I miss him.

Not Mr. Annoying—ugh, definitely not him.

But him. The stupid thief.

Yes, I miss him. Maybe just a little... okay, maybe more than a little. But still.

I grabbed my phone and saw his message staring back at me.

"Should I text him?"

I shook my head. No, Y/N, what are you thinking? He could be dangerous. And most importantly... you've never even seen his face.

Looks don't matter to me... but still. I have the right to see him, don't I?

But... his touch. His breath. The way he held me like I was something fragile, something important.

I didn't know what was happening. My fingers started moving on their own.

"Hey."

Sent.

"No, no—what did I just do?" I panicked. My thumb hovered over the delete button.

Too late. He was already calling me.

"Oh no." I bit my lip, heart racing.

I picked up.

???: "My baby miss me?"

"No!! I—it was just... I was going to text Emma, but it got sent to you instead!"

I tried to play it off, voice shaking.

He laughed. That deep, low laugh that always made my stomach twist—

not with butterflies... with warning signs.

???: "Baby, do you really think I'd believe that? …Well, too late. I'm coming tonight. Wait for me."

"No! I mean—my new roommate is here! And don't you dare drug her."

I snapped, panic rising like bile.

Silence.

Then, with a chilling calm:

???: "Really? That's sad... I already did."

My heart dropped.

I jolted up from the bed, but the moment I did—click.

The lights went out.

Everything was swallowed in darkness.

I rushed to the door, heart pounding in my chest.

Locked.

From the outside.

No. No. No.

Is he going to hurt Kelly?

Panic surged through me. Kelly was strong—fierce even. She wouldn't go down easily. But he was dangerous… unpredictable. I could already see it in my head—her trying to fight him off, him hurting her…

"Kelly!!" I screamed, fists banging on the door.

"Please, don't hurt her! Please!" My voice cracked, tears threatening to fall.

Then—

Click.

The door creaked open.

And there he was.

That same masked figure, his face still hidden. The man who stole peace from my nights, and yet somehow still haunted my heart.

???: "You care for anyone, don't you?"

His voice was low, unreadable.

He stepped forward—and before I could move, he pulled me into his arms.

A tight, possessive hug.

Like I belonged there.

Like he had no plans of letting go.
