Among the dining set that was among the items on the seller's mat, Theef chose the unassuming dinner knife that seemed to be made of common metal.
But the divining power would not fail to detect an item's value.
Theef dribbled a bit of his acidic saliva over the knife and lo and behold it held together, peeling off a layer of metal.
The true nature of the knife was revealed to all as Theef now held a deep black metal throwing knife.
"This should be worth a pretty penny," Theef said turning to the crew, "Hey! Get over here and pay the man, would ya!?"
Barter's Ruler and the rest had taken in the events leading up to the reveal like the others in the crowd and were still taken aback at what had occurred.
"That's what I'm talking about!" Null was fully behind it.
"Alright, I'll admit it. That was magnificent!" Barter's Ruler summoned a large golden brick and handed it to the seller.
"My goodness! Thank you for this bountiful payment."
All of the other clerks and sellers were jealous of the man and his new lump of gold wishing that one of their wares turned out to be worth more than it seemed.
Unfortunately for them however, Theef was uninterested in anything else as the bean sprout only dimly glowed a dull white.
He could have figured out the use of the throwing knife but consuming it would also work given that he would naturally gain its ability.
He returned to the group throwing knife in hand to which they all settled on finishing their shopping spree and returning the Wanderer's Guild to start their first quest.
It was a new experience for them navigating the issued quests that ranged from retrieving items to killing targets.
"Welcome back new members of the guild." The same receptionist was there to welcome them as they returned to the Wanderer's Guild.
"We're here to start our first mission." Null spoke for the crew.
"As you already know, you are restricted to plains quest due to your status as new members having no formal experience."
"We understand. Would you show us the quests first?" Null spoke again.
"Yes of course. There are plenty of plains quests to choose from, some spanning from galaxies away, but there are obviously those within the confines of nearby planets and such."
The receptionist walked over to the side of the desk and pulled out a tablet from a drawer.
"This tablet holds all of the plains quests starting from amateur going down to adept. Once a newcomer completes either three amateur quests, two experienced quests, or a single adept quest, they will be allowed to move onto the next rank."
"Aww man. That and the fact that I can't undertake a space quest before completing another world quest means you guys will have to wait for me."
"Who cares," Null comforted his friend, "The most we'll have to wait depends on what type of mission you take. If it's anything you can't handle without us, it's not like they'll know we helped you out a bit."
As he said so, the receptionist behind them had been stunned by his brazen attitude.
"While it is indeed possible to aid those during their quests, the Wanderer's Guild highly recommends you submit a request with said aids beforehand so that you are not criticized by other guild members and staff."
"So it's fine if we group up for quests? Alright then, what are we waiting for!"
"I think I've narrowed down some suitable quests," Barter's Ruler said with the tablet in hand.
They were some typical standard quests like one for a fetching of some common herbs and another for a hit on a wanted criminal in the area.
"Might as well take the most fun one of the batch," Null gave some input.
"Like I trust your idea of fun," Z'oelo dismissed the idea.
"We're here to gain experience, right? Let's forget familiarizing ourselves and choose something challenging," Klein was ready to challenge himself.
"Since we're stuck starting from the bottom, it's not like we're gonna have too much trouble completing the first few quests. I say we pick the fastest route to advancing our ranks," Theef just wanted to advance first and foremost.
"Taking that all in, I propose we all take turns on the type of quest we take on starting with helping out Theef since he has to catch up to the rest of us," Barter's Ruler took on the leadership role and none of the rest complained.
They were all ready to experience their first quest and to begin with, they settled on a simple fetch quest.
The quest details were to extract a certain sap from the trees of a fairly common tree on an uninhabited planet.
With nothing to do besides focus on the quest, the crew signed the quest form and boarded Theef's ship.
The trip was uneventful— as one would expect from a simple plains quest— so the quest was easily completed the same day it was accepted.
All they had to do was put in the coordinates of the planet, set off, and find the type of tree they were looking for before extracting the sap by hacking into it with Muni's weapon form.
The sap was useful for culinary prospects as it was tastefully sweet and refreshing.
After collecting almost a gallon of the sap, the mission was officially complete, and the crew headed back to submit it.
"Congratulations on successfully completing your first plains quest! Here's to more success in the near future," the receptionist seemed to be the only one working there, but she was nice to the crew and very good at her job.
"Now for the reward for completing the plains quest."
"Oh. I forgot about that," Null was the first of the crew to speak up.
"Kinda figured we were only in this for the experience," Z'oelo too had forgotten.
"Will the rewards for such low rank quests even be appealing to us," Klein wondered.
"Of course not. We'll only be receiving the rewards because it is customary," Barter's Ruler seemed to be the only one in the group with his head on his shoulders.
"We have a set rewards policy which the issuer of the quest places or a generated amount of Wanderer's Points to spend on our Wanderer's Store where we have exclusive items and the like."
"This is what I've been looking for," Barter's Ruler lit up at the offer.
Wanderer's Points were valued highly even by those that were already apart of the guild.
The reason being, there were all sorts of both personally submitted items and those offered by the gargantuan guild itself.
Things that could be found nowhere else in the cosmos could be traded for with the Wanderer's Points.
"We will naturally choose the Wanderer's Points," Barter's Ruler spoke for the crew.
"Alright then. That is a total of three Wanderer's Points for the completion of an amateur plains quest."
Needless to say, the number of points were pitiful for their first quest, but it would only increase as the threshold for their ranks did.
