The week-long educational tour had ended, and Lily Smith had returned home by car. They arrived at half-past five in the afternoon, just in time for dinner.
Amanda Smith had long prepared a feast for them. Having not seen each other for a week, Lily rushed excitedly into Amanda's arms upon seeing her.
"Mommy, Lily missed you so much."
She wrapped her arms around Amanda's neck, nestling in her embrace and calling out softly, just like she did when she was little.
Amanda caressed Lily's head with a smile: "You're already so big and still acting coquettishly!"
The words may say one thing, but they were filled with endearment.
The mother and daughter caught up for a while, and after a short wait, Samuel Johnson also came downstairs. The family then proceeded to have a harmonious dinner together.
Having been out and about for a week, Lily had been eating wild game, and now that she was home, she found the home-cooked meal refreshing and ate a lot with a hearty appetite.
