Chapter 14 - Big deal (I)

# The Day That Changed Everything

The whole day passed, and the school couldn't stop talking about the incident concerning Noah—the boy who, in just one afternoon, had torn through the top names in the school like they were made of paper.

It felt unreal to most students. Like a dream they'd all shared, whispered about in hushed tones during lunch breaks and passed around in text messages that grew more exaggerated with each retelling.

Daniel Park, left half-dead in the nurse's office, his usually pristine appearance reduced to bandages and ice packs.

Vasco, ribs broken clean, his trademark boisterous laughter replaced by labored breathing as he was carried to the hospital.

Vin Jin, down with spinal injuries, his cocky swagger nowhere to be found as paramedics loaded him onto a stretcher.

Three of the strongest fighters in the region—legends in their own right—had been dismantled by a single person in broad daylight. Students who had witnessed it firsthand found themselves questioning their own memories. Teachers who had heard about it through the grapevine exchanged worried glances in the faculty lounge.

And yet, Noah hadn't been expelled. Not even suspended.

All he got was a quick trip to the principal's office. A short conversation, a casual warning, and that was it. No punishment. No calls home. Like the school itself was afraid to push him too far, as if they understood that Noah operated by different rules than everyone else.

The principal, a man who had dealt with troublemakers for over two decades, had found himself unusually nervous during their brief meeting. There was something in Noah's eyes—not malice, exactly, but a kind of cold calculation that made authority figures reconsider their approach.

Noah walked out of the office with a grin and not a scratch of guilt, leaving behind a trail of whispered speculation and fearful respect.

Now, as the sun dipped lower in the sky, painting the streets in shades of orange and gold, Noah strolled down the sidewalk with his sister, Suzan. They were chatting casually about mundane things—her upcoming art project, his thoughts on dinner, the new café that had opened near their apartment. Like nothing had happened. Like he hadn't dismantled three of the strongest fighters in the region earlier that day.

Suzan was blissfully unaware of the chaos her brother had caused, or perhaps she simply chose not to acknowledge it. She had learned long ago that Noah's world was complicated in ways she didn't need to understand. All that mattered was that he was her brother, and he protected her from the parts of that world that might hurt her.

"The cherry blossoms are starting to bloom," she mentioned, pointing to a tree they passed. "We should have a picnic this weekend."

Noah smiled, genuinely this time. "That sounds nice. We can get those sandwiches you like from—"

Then, a group of ten men appeared at the end of the street.

They blocked the sidewalk like a wall of muscle and intent, their presence immediately shifting the atmosphere from peaceful to predatory. These weren't random thugs or school bullies—they moved with purpose, their positions calculated to cut off escape routes.

At the front of the group stood two figures that immediately stood out, even among the intimidating crowd.

Jake's sharp eyes scanned Noah like a piece of equipment he'd come to inspect, taking in every detail—posture, breathing, the way his hands hung at his sides. He was big—tall, built like a boulder carved from years of street fighting—but Jerry, standing beside him like a loyal shadow, was somehow even more imposing in his quiet intensity.

The other eight members of Big Deal formed a loose semicircle behind them, each one a seasoned fighter in their own right. They wore matching jackets that marked them as crew, their expressions ranging from curious to skeptical. Some had heard stories about Noah; others were here simply because Jake had asked.

"Are you Noah?" Jake asked, voice calm but firm, carrying the weight of someone accustomed to being obeyed.

Suzan looked up at them nervously, her artist's eye immediately recognizing the dangerous energy radiating from the group. She instinctively stepped closer to Noah, her hand brushing against his arm. "Brother... are these your friends?"

Noah gave a soft nod, his expression carefully neutral as he assessed the situation. "Yeah. Something like that."

Suzan sighed in relief, her tension visibly easing. If Noah said they were friends, then everything was fine. She had complete faith in her brother's judgment, even when she couldn't understand the complexities of his world.

"You can go on ahead," Noah added gently, his voice taking on the protective tone he reserved only for her. "I'll meet you at home."
