Chapter 346: Prelude to the War of the Gods (Part 1)
Qian Daoliu looked at Qian Renxue, his eyes full of love.
As the guardian of the Angel God, Qian Daoliu's existence had always been for the sake of the Angel God's inheritance. Just like Bo Saixi, only by sacrificing himself could he unlock the final trial of the Angel God.
So, having served the Angel God his entire life, Qian Daoliu was destined never to witness the moment when the Angel God's brilliance once again illuminated the mortal world.
Of course, that was assuming no unexpected variables appeared.
"Hahaha, old man, there's no need to be so sentimental. You can witness the moment Xue'er ascends to godhood!"
With a hearty laugh, Xiao Yu appeared in the Angel Temple.
"Xiao Yu!"
Qian Renxue called out in delight and, like a swallow returning to its nest, threw herself into Xiao Yu's arms.
Though they had exchanged news over the past months, it had been over half a year since they last saw each other in person.
"You rascal, leaving the front lines—what are you doing here?"
Qian Daoliu frowned as he looked at his granddaughter, whose cold and aloof demeanor completely crumbled the moment Xiao Yu appeared.
If he weren't aware that he couldn't defeat Xiao Yu, Qian Daoliu would've already tried to kick him out.
Xiao Yu smiled lightly and said, "Old man, I'm here especially for you."
"Yes, Grandpa!"
Qian Renxue, realizing that her earlier display of affection in front of her grandfather was a bit inappropriate, blushed slightly and stepped away from Xiao Yu. She moved gracefully to Qian Daoliu's side and said softly, "Grandpa, I know the conditions to activate the Angel God Trial now. Xiao Yu told me. Why did you keep something so important from me?"
"You know?!"
Qian Daoliu couldn't help but glare at Xiao Yu behind Qian Renxue. He knew his granddaughter's temperament well, and the reason he kept the truth from her was simple—if she found out that the final trial of the Angel God required her grandfather's life as the price, she might very well give up the trial entirely.
He gently stroked Qian Renxue's head and said tenderly, "Xue'er, bringing the Angel God back to the world has been the dream of our Qian family for generations. I've waited over a hundred years for this moment. Let me fulfill this dream, alright?"
As he spoke, Qian Daoliu turned his gaze to Xiao Yu and added in a not-so-friendly tone, "You'd better treat Xue'er well. If you ever hurt her, I'll haunt you even as a ghost!"
"Let's not go that far, old man!"
Xiao Yu raised his hands with a grin. "I'd never let Xue'er be hurt. But if you really want to come for me, I'd rather you do it in person. That way I can properly receive your teaching."
"What?"
Seeing Xiao Yu smiling calmly, Qian Daoliu had a sudden guess in his heart. Could it be...
"That's right."
Xiao Yu nodded toward Qian Daoliu. "While the divine inheritance does require your sacrifice to begin, as long as your soul remains intact, once Xue'er completes her ascension, you can be revived."
"Truly?"
Joy bloomed on Qian Daoliu's face. Though he had long been prepared to sacrifice himself for the Angel God, if there was a chance he could live on—of course, he wanted that chance.
"Absolutely, Grandpa!"
Qian Renxue wrapped her arm around Qian Daoliu's and said with a touch of affection, "I had Xiao Yu return from the front lines just for this. He's already ascended to godhood, and with his help, your soul can be perfectly preserved."
"That's not all!"
Xiao Yu said, "Once Xue'er ascends to godhood, we can promote the old man to a divine official from his role as a divine attendant. Although divine officials don't possess a domain of their own, they are still legitimate level-100 powerhouses and enjoy eternal life all the same."
This massive revelation instantly lit up Qian Daoliu's heart like a sunrise after endless night. He had believed his fate was sealed, that this lifetime had reached its conclusion—never expecting that such a possibility lay ahead.
"Wait a minute!"
After a brief pause, Qian Daoliu's expression hardened as he swept his gaze across Qian Renxue and Xiao Yu. "You two knew this all along and didn't tell me? I've spent all this time weighed down in sorrow, thinking I'd never see my little Xue again!"
Qian Renxue huffed lightly, puffing out her cheeks. "Well, Grandpa, you were keeping your sacrifice from me too. Of course I had to punish you a little."
"You little rascal. Already a mother, and still acting like a child."
Qian Daoliu looked at Qian Renxue dotingly, though deep down he felt an overwhelming relief. His greatest worry had always been that, once the divine trial began, Renxue would be forced to watch him fall. That emotional trauma could severely hinder her performance during the trials. But now, that concern had vanished.
He patted her head again and said warmly, "Xue'er, let's not waste any time. We should begin as soon as possible."
"Mm!" Qian Renxue nodded gently.
"Follow me," Qian Daoliu said.
He released his martial soul, his entire body enveloped in a golden glow. Eight black rings and one red ring appeared in perfect order around him. Three pairs of pure white wings unfurled from his back.
With a powerful flap of his six wings, Qian Daoliu shot toward the massive statue of the Angel God.
Qian Renxue and Xiao Yu immediately followed, ascending into the air and flying directly behind Qian Daoliu.
Then, a strange sight unfolded.
When Qian Daoliu's body struck the enormous angel statue, there was no impact. Instead, it was as though he had passed into rippling water. With a flash of light, he vanished.
The same happened to Qian Renxue and Xiao Yu. They followed him directly into the statue and disappeared within.
A vortex at the statue's brow slowly faded, and the illusory glow around the temple dissipated. Peace returned to the sacred space, but Qian Daoliu, Qian Renxue, and Xiao Yu were gone—completely vanished from the Angel Temple.
At that exact moment, as the three entered the divine inheritance space—
Outside the temple, a figure cloaked in purple-black shadows emerged from the darkness.
Her appearance was hideous—greenish skin, fangs bared, and a thick aura of corruption swirled around her purple armor. Four enormous scythes extended from her back, exuding wicked power.
She was none other than Bibi Dong—now fully ascended to the divine position of the Rakshasa God.
Bibi Dong had inherited the Rakshasa God position just half a month earlier. Among the inheritors of godhood in the current generation, she had long been the closest to level 100.
In the original timeline, she had lagged behind Qian Renxue because being the Empress of the Spirit Empire had consumed much of her time and energy. The pressure escalated further when Tang San returned from Sea God Island, forcing her to divert attention from the divine trial.
Now, however, everything had changed.
After the battle for Spirit City, Bibi Dong had lost everything—her empire, her influence, her soldiers. But that loss gave her one thing she never had before: complete focus.
That shame, that humiliation in Spirit City, drove her day and night.
And so, it was only natural that she would become a god before Qian Renxue.
