Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: Alix VS The Djinns

The battle started with Karic firing off his arrow straight at Alix. She easily dodged it and ran forward. Karic fired a few more that all missed their mark. Alix dove through the window.

"Omnia Faust!" A giant mana fist was suddenly fired from the girl's hand and flew toward Karic. He quickly ducked out of the way as Leroy and Joana rushed toward Alix. They attacked in unison, swinging at her from either side.

Alix kicked Joana to maneuver herself out of the way of Leroy's morningstar. Joana stumbled back but Leroy continued his attack now following up with a lifting swing that hit Alix in her side. Alix groaned from the pain but still managed to catch herself and dive out of the way of Joana's blade.

She had no time to rest however as she quickly activated, "Omnia Bloquer!" and managed to block the four knives that had been thrown in her direction. As the spell dissipated the knives didn't fall. They were instead levitating.

Alix eyes went wide. She saw Edmund holding up his hand.

"Oh, did we mention that we held back during our last confrontation?" Ed asked clarifyingly receiving an annoyed, "No" in response. He shrugged. "Well, now you know."

With a flick of his wrists the knives began to wildly spin and attempt to cut into her. Alix's clicked her teeth as she reinforced her Lis to protect her body from the knives only to be doused in water. She turned and saw a Narie smugly smiling at her.

"Oh you shouldn't be looking at me. You should be ready for our boss." Alix turned her gaze to Karic who seemed to have prepared a spell in his hand. "Oh right, I'm also a mage. A lightning mage!" Alix's eyes went wide as she tried to move but cut off by a the knives and then grappled by the goblin.

"Where do you think you're going, girly?" Joana mocked. Before Alix could try anything else Karic fired off the spell and hit Alix.

"GAAAAHHH!!" She screamed in pain. As the electricity was amplified by the water from earlier. Alix almost kept her balance but was quickly hit by Leroy and sent stumbling to the ground.

From outside of the barrier the guards watched in horror.

"We need to get in there now!" Captain Geon ordered.

"We're trying sir but this is no magic that we've delt with before! We can't find any sort of weak point. We need more time!"

"We don't have time! Ren's daughter is gonna die!"

"Relax." Geon turned to the calm voice of Sala Ren. "How can you be so nonchalant?! That's your daughter in there and she's clearly losing!" Sala slowly shook her head.

"She isn't losing. She's analyzing." Geon was bewildered. "What?"

"It's something that she does. Says that because she's a sorceress she needs to be aware of all of the variables during a conflict. Though, I've never seen any sorcerers fight like that." Sala was confident in her daughter's skills.

She watched Alix get kneed in the back then thrown to the side. Even as confident as the woman was in her daughter she had to admit. This situation was dangerous.

"We should still try to get through this barrier as fast as possible. She's still young. She can't handle that many skilled fighters alone." Geon was at a lost for words and could only sigh helplessly. "Fine, I'll trust you."

Alix, meanwhile, managed to get out of the way of Leroy's follow up attack and narrowly avoid Joanna's ambush. 'These guys are a real pain.' She pulled out another spell and fired it toward Edmund who easily dodged it.

"Those useless things are to slow to hit us! Try something better!" Alix glared at the man but could not disagree with him. Her spells were to slow to hit anyone that saw them coming.

'Looks like my fists are all I can rely on for the time being.' Joana cut diagonally at Alix but Alix dipped past the attack and slammed her fist into Joana only to wince in pain. The goblin's skin felt hard as rock.

"Not strong enough, brat!" Joanna went to kick Alix but the girl managed to catch her leg. Alix swung the woman at the approaching lizardman. She tossed Joana out before Leroy could react turning the woman into a weapon. Unexpectedly, Leroy's body began to glisten and he slipped past the goblin that was now sliding across the roof.

"I'm just a bit too slimy for you girl!" Alix was incredibly annoyed. This group was way stronger than she originally thought. Three of them seem to have unique techniques that she couldn't explain. One of them was a Spirit Savant and the other two are mages!

"This group is insanely balanced." She said genuinely impressed.

"Just happens when you work with your friends long enough." Alix rolled her eyes. "Yeah, right." Alix said sarcastically and dashed at Leroy. She swung her fist at him and made contact but her hand slipped off of him. Or rather the strange substance that seemed to be excreted from his body.

"I tried to tell ya!"

"Just shut up!" Alix swung again but stop just before making contact and activated, "Omnia Faust." The spell slammed into Leroy's stomach and sent him flying across the roof.

"That was sneaky." Joana stated. "So is this." Alix responded as she grabbed something from the ground. It was a string. She poured Lis into the string and from behind Joanna, on the wall, a spell activated.

"Omnia Smash!" Joanna's tough skin wasn't strong enough to protect her completely from the power of the spell causing her to be pushed off of the roof. Knives flew around Alix again this time accompanied by arrows from Karic.

Alix caught one of the arrows and swung it at one of the knives knocking it off balance allowing her to kick it at Narie. Edmund quickly regained control and saved Narie but he was too distracted to notice Alix leaping at him.

He was hit with a knee to the face and sent sprawling to the ground. Alix then picked him up while increasing the amount of Lis she was using and swung him at the nearby Narie.

"Look out!" Narie ducked out of the way but that was a mistake as Alix used the momentum of the swing to roundhouse kick the woman. Alix's leg hit the fairy hard on her head. Narie and Edmund hit the ground hard leaving only Karic and Alix standing at the moment.

"Wow!" Karic was clapping. "That was amazing, kid! You really managed to pull one over on them."

"You're stalling." Alix charged at Karic. "Damn. You got me." Karic lifted his hand and casted, "Lighting Break!" shooting multiple streaks of lightning out of his hand that seemed to slither at Alix. Alix didn't slow down and bent her body to dodge each streak.

"Too slow." She remarked. "Too bad." Karic retorted. Alix's face scrunched before she was hit by a bolt of lightning in the back. She was knocked to the ground again as Karic stared down at her.

"Lightning Break fires out multiple streaks of lightning that converge at a single point to unleash a final powerful blow. Pretty cool, right?" Alix struggled to get up but was kicked in the gut by the recovered Joana.

"The hurt like hell! Jeez!" Alix tried to pick herself up but was stomped on by Leroy. "At least you didn't get thrown across the roof! I almost fell off!" Alix tried to reach for Leroy's leg but a knife stabbed through her hand and glued it to the roof. "I get it." Edmund agreed.

Alix felt her spell pouch removed from her side as Narie spoke up. "I still think that spell she hit me with last time was the most painful thing that I've ever experienced. I mean, it knocked me out cold." Narie tossed the bag off of the roof causally.

Alix was in a poor situation. No spells. Unable to get up. And all of her enemies were still relatively unharmed. "Now, we should probably wrap things up here. We've already been exposed to the entire guard so we should get out of here as fast as possible." Karic recommended.

"Yeah, while they still haven't seen our faces." Leroy agreed and turned to Joana. "You want to do the honors?" Joana's face beamed. "It would be my greatest pleasure." Joana stood over Alix.

"I've been waiting to do this from the moment that you started running your mouth a few nights ago." She lifted the sword above her head. "Bye bitch!"

Alix couldn't help but avert her gaze as she awaited her demise. An ending that never came.

She suddenly noticed that her back felt lighter and turned to see what happened. Joanna and Leroy were completely gone. The others seemed to be staring at something else.

'Don't ya worry, Lexi." Alix's eyes widened. She turned to the window of her bedroom. 'I would never let anythin' like that happen to ya! Not on my finless corpse!" Mo was floating in the air using the Abyssal Sea. Narie slowly turned around to the opposite building where Leroy and Joanna were now plastered to the wall.

"What did that fish just do?" She asked in utter shock.

"How is that water floating?" Edmund questioned just as confused.

"Where the hell did it come from?" Karic asked. Mo fired off two more streams while calling out in a language only Alix understood. "Abyssal Sea: Lightless Stream!" Three high pressure streams of water hit the remaining Djinns sending them flying.

Karic managed to catch himself at the end of the roof. He seemed to notice something quickly looking up in a panic. "Damnit, we're running out of time!" Alix's eyes narrowed. She looked toward the sky or rather the barrier that surrounded her. It seemed like it was beginning to shrink rapidly. Karic gritted his teeth and ordered the others.

"We need to leave now!" The Djinns looked panicked as they noticed their time was almost up. Alix, on the other hand, felt strangely calm. More calm than she had ever felt before. She stared at Mo with conviction in her eyes and shouted out an order of her own.

"Mo! Abyssal Sea: Consuming Tidal!" Mo felt energy surge within him and her gladly obeyed. "Of course, captain!" He called out instinctively. At that moment a giant wave a darkness rose from seemingly nowhere. The Djinns stared at it in fear.

"Ahh Shiiiiit!" They all simultaneously screamed. The wave washed them away crashing through the weakening barrier washing them even further away. Alix watched as the wave moved into the distance. She looked down into her hand. This entire time she had been holding something.

It was the silver thread that was connected to Mo. She felt calm holding onto it. Like she could handle simply anything as long as she held this thread. She looked up as Mo floated over to her. Both smiled at each other.

"We make a killer team, Lexi!"

"Calm down. You only cleared them up after I had been fighting them for the last few minutes."

"Oh really? Cuz' it seem like ya were strugglin' quite a bit before I got here." Mo said conceitedly. Alix sighed. ' We didn't actually beat them, Mo. We just washed our enemies into the distance. I would say that we may have just extended our problem."

"Don't ya worry. They won't be any trouble if we just work together like just now." Alix turned to the guards that were running up now that the barrier had been dropped.

"Yeah. You're right." The guards escorted Alix to a nearby clinic to help her recover as the fanned the streets searching for the group that called themselves the Djinns.

Alix was told to rest by the doctor but knew that wasn't possible.

She had a duel tomorrow after all.
