The same quiet charm clung to its cobblestone streets. The old corner café still had the creaky sign swinging in the breeze. The scent of freshly baked bread wafted through the alleys in the morning, mingling with the faint sea salt air from the nearby coast. The skies here always felt bluer, the air a little gentler, like the city itself whispered, You're home.

My parents had insisted it was the best place for me to give birth. "You were born here, Eve," Mom had said, her hands on my shoulders, eyes gleaming with a hope she didn't try to hide. "There's something full circle about it. Safe. Familiar."

But if I was being honest, it wasn't just about familiarity.

I had agreed because Frizkiel was far from Cole.
