Cherreads

Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

Suddenly, the water began to swirl in a circular pattern, resembling a whirlpool that pulled in everything nearby.

It pulled Kaven under before he could even scream for help, then vanished.

The water swallowed his voice as he tried to scream, pulling him down into the depths of the lake.

As he was dragged through the raging water, he lost all his strength and surrendered into a deep sleep.

When the water calmed, a gentle wind breeze brushed over Arthur and Jack which woke them up. Arthur asked, "Where is Kaven?"

Jack looked around but didn't see him. He wondered where Kaven could have gone.

Jack worried said, "We have to find him, I feel something bad happened."

Arthur agreed with him and started to search for him among the trees.

The day before when they reached the lake, Lucas took the opportunity to approach Margarita, full of curiosity, and asked her what she was doing there and why.

She was surprised by his presence. She hadn't expected that Lucas was following her.

She felt hurt by his lack of trust and looked at him with sad eyes. "Why? Don't you trust me?"

Lucas didn't want to sabotage his plans and make her put him on the suspect's list.

So, he tried to distract her thoughts and told her in a calm, affectionate, and lovely tone that he was afraid and wanted to protect her.

She was in love with him so she liked what he told her and didn't think much.

But she also knew that he was lying, so she told him that those men were suspected of practicing forbidden magic, and she wanted to catch them with evidence.

He didn't believe her either, but he didn't question her further.

Lucas suggested taking her back to the palace and sending someone else to do the tracking.

She had come there on purpose, but she couldn't tell him that. Needing time to think of a solution, she agreed and said she just wanted to rest first.

They rested a few feet away from where Kaven and the others were.

The sounds of fighting grew louder between Margarita and Lucas. Lucas had seen everything and wanted to tell Jack and Arthur, but Margarita didn't want her plans to fail.

If Arthur and Jack saw her, they would not let her succeed.

Lucas angrily said he would talk to them alone. She couldn't resist him more.

But she was also afraid that Lucas might remember who Arthur was.

Her fear was justified. Lucas did know exactly who Arthur was.

Lucas left her behind and headed toward Jack and Arthur. He wore a mask in case Arthur remembered him.

Jack was standing near the lake, still afraid of what had happened to Kaven, while Arthur searched between the trees, calling for him, but only the birds replied.

Lucas approached Jack without him noticing and said, "Hi, can I talk to you?"

Jack nearly stumbled, distracted by his thoughts. He was shocked as there had not been anyone else around.

He stood up and called Arthur to come.

When Arthur arrived, he took a look at the stranger and asked, "Who is he?"

Lucas introduced himself respectfully, "I'm Lucas. I usually come here to fish, and I saw what happened to your friend."

Arthur and Jack exchanged skeptical glances, they didn't believe him as there were no creatures in this lake, but they didn't say anything.

Lucas felt the strange look on their faces, but he didn't care and resumed his talk.

He told them how the water formed and pulled Kaven in it and that it happened during sunset time.

They were stunned and asked if Lucas knew anything about the lake.

Lucas hesitated and replied, "No it's the first time I have seen the lake act like that. I have to go now."

He ran away before they could ask him more.

Arthur thought about what Lucas said while staring at the lake and said sharply, "Let's wait until the sunset, we might find a clue to Kaven's whereabouts."

Jack's worried thoughts echoed in his mind wondering about his friend, is he alive?

The purple glow from the necklace and the girl appearing from it was the last thing Kaven saw before losing consciousness.

Suddenly, he woke up and looked around. He had been thrown near a lake, but it was a different one.

He was shocked when he saw the temple and the ancient statues of dragons and warriors.

And the girl this time had not vanished like before.

She looked at Kaven smiling at him as he tried to process the strange scene around him.

Before he could gather himself, the ground began to shake violently, and the girl shouted at him to run inside the temple and prepare for what was coming.
