Chapter 5 - Wouldn't want anyone dying on my first day

A week passed since I had returned from the mountain, the summer was coming to an end. I went to the military camp with father and big brother to join the camp as a physician, which made me the first female physician. Women of this era were expected to stay home, and look after the children, but I was different. My father support my decision of becoming a physician at the military camp. After all I'm a walking calamity. If I were to get into a marriage, someone might die. Father summoned all the soldiers and physicians in the camp so that he can introduce me to them, and as you they were people with different opinion about me. "Even if she is the first apprentice of the mountain god, that doesn't mean she can handle military condition. Please don't be offended by my words, but we are talking about the lives of our warriors." he said with an arrogant attitude as he looked at the warriors around him. "Oh! Is that so? So why don't you test me and see if I can withstand the conditions here?" I said as I stretched a wide smile across my face while looking straight into his eyes.

"How so?" he said as he slightly raised his head up, slightly tilting it to his left side as he folded his arms together. "You and me, one on one. Without any weapons, that way it would be safe for you." I said smirking as I narrowed my eyes, daring him to speak. "Okay, fine by me." he replied, brimming with confidence. "Now that both sides agreed, it is official then. Both sides please go prepare for the duel that is to take place in 30 minutes." Father said, making the duel official. We all dispersed to prepare for it. I headed to the tent where I would be staying to change into a comfortable outfit that I will be able to move fast in it. I changed into my military robe with a red top with black accents, including a black collar and potentially black trim along the edges. Under was a flowing black lower garment, contrasting with the vibrant red top. After I was done changing I went to the training site where the duel would be taking place. "Are the both sides ready? Lǐ Xùyáng asked as he looked at both of us. We both agreed, and the duel began. He struck his defense pose as I stood sideways,

one foot forward hands clasped behind my back — calm, but ready. I held his gaze, daring him to make the first move. He launched towards me with a fist. I moved my foot that was forward, backward, allowing me to dodge his fist. I used my left hand to hold the hand he had launched, I then spun around, my back facing him before I slammed my palm into the back of his neck. This blow left him crumbling to the ground. [Damn! I feel like I might have overdone it, I should check his pulse fast to make sure he is alright.] I thought to myself as I crouched down to him and reached out for his wrist to check his pulse. [ Phew!!At least he is alright, I wouldn't want anyone die on my first day in the camp. I don't want to be labelled as the first female physician who killed a soldier on her first day at the camp. That might attract unwanted attention, and out my family in danger.] I thought to myself as I released a sigh of relief after I've read his pulse. I stood up and ask two of the soldiers from the crowd to carry him to the tent, so that he can rest. The crowd broke into an excitement, many came forward, asking me to teach them my technique.

"As expected of the general's daughter, you took him down without breaking a sweat. You have grown a lot than when I last saw you. Damn! You would make such a good soldier. The camp will benefit a lot with you here. " The vice general said as he pulled me to a hug, padding my head. "Why are you saying it like you haven't seen me since forever? If anyone was to see you right now, they would assume it's been a century since we last seen each other." I said in a playful tone, making the both of us burst into laughter.
