Leah stood up almost immediately.
"Does he really need to go to the hospital? Is he hurt anywhere?"
"No, Hazel, you need to calm down. I just want him to go there so that he is not alone and will be monitored, that's all. I need you to go home and rest. You were discharged from the hospital not too long ago."
Leah heaved a sigh of relief at the news. He was fine, and she did not have to worry too much. She wanted to go along, but she would most likely be refused. She was comforted that he would be alright in the hospital, as he was not going to be alone. As of now, it was best if she went back with Alexis, then came to see him first thing tomorrow.
"Thank you for helping him." Leah said with a smile.
"Don't mention it, Hazel. It is what has to be done anyway. You look exhausted though. The two of you should get going."
Alexis smiled at him. "Come back safely, Uncle Huo."
He ruffled her hair. "See you at home, Alex."
With that, he turned to Gu Feng, who was slouched against the wall. He patted him on the shoulder and they both turned to leave.
Leah stood with Alexis and watched as Uncle Huo walked away with Gu Feng. Alexis sighed.
She smiled sadly.
"He looks so different from before; it is so strange to see him so subdued. I don't know what I was expecting to see, but I guess you won't be the same after your whole life implodes in your face."
"Of course you will not, you cannot remain the same person. If you do, it will be the same thing all over again, and you will continue to suffer."
"I hope he gets better. I know a lot of people are mean to him on the internet about the thing with the drugs and have made him to be a horrible person, but I can't bring myself to think he is a bad person."
Leah wrapped her arm around her sister's shoulder. "He never was, I am very sure about it."
Alexis lowered her head. "I'm also getting tired, let's go home too, or else mom would be worried."
"Alright."
*#*#*#*#*
Leah leaned against the window of the taxi, lost in thought. It had been a very long day, and right now she just wanted to sleep. That would have to wait though, as it was rush hour and they got caught up in traffic. With it being so calm now, her thoughts could not help but wander.
How had he ended up like this? Even if everyone reviled him now, and no producer was willing to work with him out of fear. He should still have the money from his work for all these years. She knew that his public image made him look frivolous and carefree, he was a bit of a thrift and attached a lot of sentimental value to things that he considered his.
She remembered how upset he got when his phone got smashed because he was caught by surprise and swarmed by a group of fans. He got a better, and more advanced phone, but still got upset when he thought about it.
If anything, he should still have one apartment left, or some money to live comfortably for a long time. If anything, his degree in university made the job he was doing way above his paygrade.
The answer was becoming too clear, and it was filling her heart with anger. That monster had already taken everything she had, was he not satisfied? Why did he want to ruin Gu Feng as well? Because of some revenge? What did Gu Feng have to do with any of it?
She could not stand this, she had to do something to help him out. But thinking of helping him made her feel very dejected. Aiden Ji was very powerful, and Hazel Chen had only graduated a few months ago. she was afraid that if she asked Uncle Huo to help him, he would be implicated by Aiden. She was no longer the top manager at Xinglin Entertainment with the Song family's backing. To everyone, Leah song was dead.
She had to do something to protect Gu Feng, and the best way was to get Aiden off his back. She bit the nails on her thumb. There had to be a way. She knew too much about him at this point, and she had to use that little advantage to her benefit. She would come up with something when she was more lucid.
Talking to Gu Feng too might help, but he would not tell a stranger anything, he was far too cautious for that. If anything, he might avoid her if she brings that up or asks too many questions.
She remained with her thoughts for a while and fought the urge to sleep as the taxi moved slowly. Alexis had dozed off not long after her phone ran out of battery, and her breathing indicated that she was asleep.
At that moment, one of the huge billboards displayed a picture of herself. She was a bit startled by it, then chuckled softly. It felt strange to try to consider herself as a different person now, but that was how it was.
"In loving memory of Leah Song. She will remain in our hearts forever."
There was a date and venue under it, probably for the funeral. She had the sudden urge to attend out of mere curiosity, but that might be difficult, since it was going to be an exclusive event.
The picture changed, and it was now one she took with Lingling. She felt very complicated in seeing how happy they were in the picture, and how their relationship soured. Iris Ling used to be her little adorable baby, until she started to believe she was causing a rift between her and Gu Feng. She accused her of still clinging to him even after her marriage, and it made her reluctant to see them.
It was clear that they had broken up now, and it made her a little bitter. It seemed Iris was no longer the sweet girl who wanted to be a star. She wondered how things had ended if she could totally ignore Gu Feng like this.
That made her sad. She considered her friends very precious to her and seeing them apart broke her heart. Maybe, there could be a way for them to reconcile. Even if they did not get back together, they could still be friends again. That thought gave her a little hope and caused her to smile.
