I decided to steal the cure but not use it just yet. I wanted to see if the meds do any good. If so I will return it if the meds work if it doesn't I will use it. Since I was seriously sick no one bothers to check if I am a werewolf or vampire. I had coughed up blood once on an officer so they didn't bother with me anymore. I was sent to Ravencroft Academy and my friends were kind and caring. A few would look at me with disdain. Others would stare in awe that someone like me made it inside this prestigious building. Vampires and werewolves were exposed and the government was looking for a way to reverse their condition. The meds I take did the bare minimum and I am tempted to reach for the cure. The classes were long and boring. Finally the weekend arrived and I was allowed to go to uncle J's place for medical purposes. The colossal structure I renamed the Citadel. The place resembled a literal fortress from ancient times. The outside was intimidating and the inside was awe-inspiring. The inside was futuristic and every single space was used wisely. The table expanded and shrunk depending on the number of dinner guests. There is personalized climate control and smart glass. Even the chandelier looked out of this world. The roof had a glass dome with the largest telescope I had ever seen my entire life.
I quietly hobbled downstairs and I heard my uncle J and someone else talking. It turns out he had my illness and he used my blood to cure. He has systemically replaced my healthy cells with his disease cells. I was so pissed that I finally decided to go to my room and lock the door. I flushed my meds down the toilet and called the cab to take me back to school. Uncle J was sad that I was leaving but insisted that I drop by when possible. I gave him a fake smile and a hug. Uber took me to the hospital for a bone marrow transplant. I had helped a soldier find his daughter so he arranged the operation. After the operation my health improved a great deal. But I had a feeling this was short lived so when I was feeling better I requested to go back to school instead. Mom tried to argue but I said that my friends would keep me company and I would heal faster. Uncle J had his apprehension but he said yes.
As months progressed my health improved. I had systemically thrown my meds in the trash and refused trips to the hospital. My uncle slowly stopped appearing in society. His health had deteriorated and he needed to recuperate. I heard that the military arrived to make sure that he was still human. I still have to walk slowly and carefully. My appearance looked less zombie-like and more normal. Mom asked how and I blurted out what uncle J had confessed. She was pissed. She made her way over and arrested him. He was taken to a holding area and I was compensated. Things got horrible as reports came of how the military were fighting the zombies and werewolves so diligently using our tax payer's money. I snuck to see an underground club. I saw vampires and werewolves fighting one another. The injuries healed at an exponential rate. The werewolves were demanding where the last hybrid formula was. The raven haired man said that he left it at the hospital but someone stole it. But so far this person has eluded them. He had hoped that this person would in fact expose themselves by now. The bullets would go and with an exhale the bullets would shoot out of the entry wound. The injuries sustained by these men and women would patch up in the blink of an eye. I finally got bored so I decided to go back home. Shaw caught me as I was about to get in a taxi. He obviously had me scanned and personally escorted me back to school. He told me to stay here as it is becoming more and more dangerous. I told him that if the government just accepted these non-humans none of this would have happened at all. He said that he is just following orders. He told me not to go out unless it is for emergency reasons only.
We were going to get transported elsewhere so he asked me nicely to pack lightly. We were given a military escort to the safe zone but a few meters away from the target destination we were overrun with zombies so we had to turn around. The military did their best to create a diversion as we drove back. We had no choice but to go back. The military had already set camp. But now the school was double booked. There were classes just people roaming around the permitted zones of the property while the army freely roamed the property. The students and I were allowed to stay in our dorms if we behaved if not we are welcome to use the dining hall as our residence like all the other survivors. My mommy was one of the officers patrolling the grounds. Batou was killed and mom's boss was her partner now. I mean a working partner not a life partner. The man was an elderly man but he had a certain old Hollywood charm to him.
I woke up to screams and gunfire. A sneak preview from the window showed that we had been breached. The window shattered and a few shards pierced my arm. I screamed in pain. I looked around for something to staunch the wound and saw a poster of a soldier fighting a werewolf. I remembered the werewolves and vampires had instantaneous tissue regeneration. The other girls in my room had already fled. I slowly and carefully walked to the mini fridge in my bedroom. I looked behind me once before I pulled out the cure from the mini fridge. I loaded the glass vials into the syringe and followed the instructions to prep the blood bag. I first used the first aid kit to clean my wounds before inserting a needle to empty the blood bag. After the blood bag was half empty I injected the vials into my body and I quietly threw the syringe and the empty vials down the garbage chute. I tucked myself in bed and went to sleep and I woke up with a jolt. I saw Shaw hovering over me with a concerned look. The siren was earsplitting. I felt the sudden urge to rip it to pieces. It was an alarm used to get the students to go outside to double check if we are secretly non-humans. Mom saw the blood bag and asked me if I was following the doctor's advice. I lied through my teeth and mom believed me without question. I walked out the door with my meager possession to stand in a single file with a group of girls in my wing.
Shaw grabbed my arm and dragged me and mom to be amongst the people who were airlifted out of here. The rest were sent to their new location by truck. The governor had secured a five hundred acre land fortified by the orders of the president. But unfortunately going there was a challenge so we stopped at a missile silo. The place was dismal, dank, dark, cold, humid and looked like this place was designed by someone who had read too many Stephen king novels. I am guessing his favorite book is IT. Because I can imagine the horrors that these dim lit corridors would say if it was given the ability to speak. Mommy chuckled as she recalled places that are far worse in appearance than this place. Chief Devanport recalled a few from memory. Shaw had a few he had in mind. In his years as a certified legalized mercenary he had seen a few things that made him question his sanity. As we were shown the common area for the citizens to congregate I felt cold and clammy so I excused myself to use the toilet. I cleaned myself up and sat down to catch my breath. As I came out I heard reports that the school was blasted to oblivion. I was told to go to the civilian zone. The next three days were normal. Unless you count enhanced reflexes as abnormal.
We had to move so the military took us to a different place. The vehicles overheated so at night time we were in open space on sleeping bags. I excused myself to use the bathroom. A woman in military garb came with just to be on the safe side. I did my business and walked back to see that the military had placed a perimeter of electrical tech. I was given a sleeping bag and I went to hide behind a huge family. I laid down and I looked up to see the moonlight around me. I looked up and saw the moon and my body began aching as though someone was pulling it from all four sides. I felt something dripping on my lips. I was having a nose bleed. My body felt like it was on fire. Then I started to have a seizure upon seizure. In between each seizure I actually saw my fingers elongate and my skin turned into a different color. It was a mix of dark gray, silver and turquoise. My nails grew till they resembled claws. I had another seizure and then paused for a moment I felt my face push forward till it felt it was satisfied. Then suddenly my face decided that it was like it the way it originally was so it started to shove itself back into its original position. When the seizures and the searing pain stopped. I felt like ice was traveling through my veins. My skin color got a little lighter. My claw-like nails receed a little. All four of my canine teeth popped out with the roots and I felt like my jaw was going to break. Then the pain stopped and I saw a baby was crying in fear. I must look like her worst nightmare.
I got up and saw that I was invisible. I quietly walked out till I found a way to see my reflection on the small pond. It still looked like me but my skin looked two toned. It was blueish gray with a few black flecks here and there. I saw that my skin looked like it was reinforced. I saw that my canines were elongated and there were fangs in front of and behind the canine. Like one wasn't enough. It was the same above and below. I felt around me with my senses. I saw through the tree and rock formations or whatever the material was and saw where the other residents of this campsite were. I saw their silouette and inside them were little red lines that seemed to move in the direction of the heart or away from it. I realized that it was their blood vessels. I tried to hear what they were saying and the voices bombarded at once. I felt a shooting pain in my ears. I had to pull out and focus again this time I managed to separate the voices to understand what they each were talking about. Shaw walked out to look out for any sort of trouble and I quickly hid. The guy he was with wasn't pleased with the overwhelming number of people. He was pissed that the scientific community was dragging specimens for some sort of reversal system that seems to only create even worse kinds which are not allowed to be exterminated. He was certain that someone was going to let loose these things into the world and everyone will blame them. The number of soldiers have already depleted and there is little to no chance that the civilians would be volunteering if they discovered this nightmare. Shaw said that he will see what he can do.
The two of them walked back in and I quietly snuck in too. I wished very much that I looked like my old self again. I went back to the pond to see that I was normal again. I walked back and quietly went to sleep. The next morning I woke up to see that everyone was having breakfast. There was a meeting requesting conscription and a few stepped forward. We asked them where we were heading. The response was simple. Iron gate maximum security prison. The uproar was undeniable. This place had the worst criminals in the city. Murders, psychopaths, rapists and other horrors. So one man made a proposal to redirect everyone to the nearest hospital. James Lutheran hospital was a fortress-like place with plenty of accommodations. Everyone can be safe and there is a helicopter pad on the roof for emergency evacuation. The military took a moment to talk and decided to head towards the hospital. Soon we were overwhelmed by the chompers and we had no choice but to head straight for the prison. As scared as people were they wanted safety more. So as the iron gates were visible to the naked eye there were actual cries of relief. Moments later we hit a pothole and the bus flipped. People dragged themselves out of the bus as it started to leak fuel. Not to mention that chompers were chasing us like we were their breakfast, lunch and dinner. I was a little sluggish as I walked out of the bus. Shaw and mom stopped the car and waved me forward. I stood still to prove a theory and true to the man's claims. These zombies walked past me like I didn't even exist. I walked casually as mom and Shaw drove to the prison. I on the other hand walked at a leisurely pace. I reached the gates and it opened to let me in. I was given an aggressive pat down before I was interrogated about my medical condition which mom confirmed. Thankfully I didn't have to do a blood test. Mom quietly waved at me. This was a signal that I was allowed to go to the civilian quarters. It was a huge hall with open space for everyone to stay while people with guns on raised platforms eyed us warily. If these guys have any clue that I am non-human that I am going to be a human pincushion for the rest of existence. My rights are going to be in the world of imagination. In the corner of my eye I can see Shaw walking towards me. Something tells me that I am going to regret it.
