The room was silent, the atmosphere eerie, as Snail Girl and Ma Jing sized each other up, neither speaking. Their relationship, once as close as sisters, had now become that of the most familiar strangers.

Snail Girl's deep pupils settled on the knife, then slowly moved to the other's face.
