Damien stopped dead, blinking in mild confusion before whipping his head around.
He spotted her now standing near one of the tall stone pillars in the room, her chest rising and falling fast and her blue eyes locked onto his. She had moved just in time.
"Don't touch her," Enzo's voice rang out behind him.
Damien turned slowly to face his son, and as they locked eyes, a devilish smirk stretched across his lips. He then turned away and faced the councilors. "No one interferes." He cast a glance at Andrei. "Especially you."
From across the room, Vincent jerked forward against Nolan's grip. "My liege! She's—" he shouted.
But Nolan quickly reached up, slapping his free hand over Vincent's mouth, yanking him back, and muffling the rest of his words. "Shut up, brat!" he growled, tightening his hold.
Damien's smirk didn't fade as he shifted his attention back to Adeline. He moved, and in the blink of an eye, he was directly in front of her.
