Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: The Answer is I Like You

"Ahhhhhhhhh!"

This was Chen Ran's first time experiencing such an exhilarating activity.

Even in Fire Moth, he had never learned to parachute.

Let alone jumping with a girl in his arms.

Although he wore goggles, watching himself plummet rapidly towards the ground, his body was constantly off balance.

He absolutely did not want to experience this a second time.

Wendy, held in Chen Ran's arms, showed no fear; on the contrary, if Chen Ran could see, he would find the girl's eyes behind the goggles filled with gentle smiles.

Even now, as Chen Ran screamed in fear, he still held onto her tightly.

This was Wendy's first time feeling protected; although the person protecting her was weak and occasionally childish and mischievous, she could feel that warm heart.

She suddenly thought that this wasn't so bad after all.

Although fate's mischief had caused her to lose her legs, she could still enjoy the tenderness of being loved.

"Chen Ran."

Amidst Chen Ran's screams, she whispered, "If we both survive, let's date."

The wind blew away her voice.

The boy and girl were still in free fall.

And Chen Ran was getting tired of shouting.

Wendy suddenly said, "Open the parachute!"

The huge parachute deployed, and their descent began to slow.

Then, a strong wind blew, pushing them off course from the original island.

Chen Ran looked at the sea below and sighed, "Oh no, how do I adjust the parachute's direction? I don't know how!"

In mid-air, they were basically at the mercy of fate.

"Now there's good news and bad news."

On the unfamiliar island, Chen Ran pulled away the parachute and began to dismantle a cable from above, tying Wendy to his back.

He said, "The good news is that we haven't been discovered by the enemy; the bad news is that we've lost contact with Himeko."

In the almost boundless night sky, the unfamiliar island was a very dangerous place.

No one knew if there were strange poisonous insects or snakes here.

Chen Ran's body was breathing heavily, and Wendy lay on his back, softly saying, "The night is our best cover. The enemy must have information that Teacher Himeko is an A-Class Valkyrie, and with their emphasis on me, they won't act rashly."

They didn't expect to deceive the enemy solely by relying on parachutes; that would actually be disrespectful to their intelligence.

However, using the night to buy time was Wendy's goal.

"As long as Principal Theresa can arrive before dawn, we'll succeed."

She said, "From now on, we need to avoid making noise and light sources to prevent the enemy from landing on this island to search."

In this regard, Wendy might not have much experience, but the knowledge stored in her brain was sufficient.

Chen Ran nodded.

He carefully observed his surroundings.

There was no moon tonight, and the stars weren't bright; although he wasn't blind, he was practically half-blind.

He had to tread carefully, looking for places to hide.

"Hope Himeko isn't too far from us." Chen Ran whispered.

Wendy didn't respond.

Since her body was tied up by Chen Ran, she could only quietly lie on his back. There was too little light here, and the girl could see very little.

It was like playing a pixel game.

She listened to the sounds of Chen Ran's footsteps and breathing, suddenly asking, "Can I ask you a question?"

"Ah, go ahead and ask. But I will choose not to answer anything about privacy." Chen Ran said while looking for a hiding place.

Wendy, as if gathering her courage, said, "You... actually don't have to get involved in this, why do you still want to continue?"

"I've already said, the Divine Authority Project is my responsibility."

"Don't joke around, I already know." She whispered, "I'm already someone who has been abandoned."

Chen Ran's body stiffened slightly, then he said, "That's a lie they told you. How could an A-Class Valkyrie be abandoned? So the brilliant and mighty me noticed that there are other forces' moles in the Ocean Branch…"

"You didn't know that back then, did you?"

Wendy pressed on, insisting on an answer.

Chen Ran helplessly said, "Alright, the answer is I like you."

He naturally couldn't reveal his true purpose.

So, he could only use this line to be a bit shameless.

Based on Chen Ran's understanding of Wendy, as long as he said this, her embarrassment would cause her to change the subject, either by going silent or by playfully punching his chest.

For him, casually expressing his feelings wasn't difficult at all.

Wendy suddenly spoke up, "I didn't hear you clearly."

"I said, I like you."

"Say it again."

"I like you."

Chen Ran suddenly sensed something was off.

He realized, "You're doing this on purpose?"

"I like you too."

The girl's lips curled into a smile, but in the dim night, it was hard to see clearly.

Chen Ran's mind went blank for a moment.

This joke seemed to have gone a bit too far.

Just as he was still thinking about what to say, Wendy suddenly said, "Be careful, don't move."

"There are footsteps."

Chen Ran instinctively crouched down, and indeed heard dense footsteps not far away.

As expected, the parachute deception tactic couldn't delay for too long; the enemy had already caught on.

However, although the island had no known boundaries, there was no suitable hiding place here, and Chen Ran was still carrying someone on his back.

His mind instantly crashed.

It seemed there was only one way left: he could commit suicide, then rewind time back to an hour ago.

An hour ago, they hadn't even set off from the Ocean Branch, so everything would still be in time.

Just as Chen Ran made up his mind, Wendy suddenly said, "Untie the rope."

"Hmm?"

"If we really encounter the enemy, I can still help shoot." She said, "That way, you can escape, right?"

"But you…"

"Don't worry, from their behavior, it's clear that those people want to keep the alive Wendy, I won't be in any danger." She said, pretending to be relaxed.

As a 14-year-old girl, it was impossible for her to say she wasn't scared at this moment.

But Wendy knew she needed to calm down.

Not just for herself, but for him too.

Chen Ran could feel Wendy's thoughts.

He pondered for a moment and shook his head.

"No, I won't agree."

What a joke, if Wendy really got captured, wouldn't it take him a long time to clear the scene?

The time in the simulated scene was synchronized with reality; he didn't want to waste time.

He said, "Trust me, Wendy, I will get you out."

Chen Ran touched the gun at his waist, which he had taken from the aircraft.

As long as the bullet in the gun was aimed at himself, then…

"Bang!"

A loud noise came from afar.

Wendy and Chen Ran looked over and saw a flare-like light flickering in the distance.

"It's Teacher Himeko's Sunfire, the enemy has gone that way." Wendy instinctively breathed a sigh of relief, "Now we can only hope Teacher Himeko can hold on."
