Kieran's POV
The first howls woke me at dawn. I was out of bed and at the window before my eyes were fully open. In the misty morning light, shadows moved through the trees surrounding my pack's territory. Too many shadows.
"We're under attack," I said, as Damon, my new Beta, burst into the room.
"At least three packs," he reported. "Maybe more. They've surrounded the compound."
My mind raced. The timing couldn't be worse. I'd only found Sienna two days ago. Only brought her to the Ruby Guard headquarters yesterday. And now this?
"Get everyone to battle stations," I ordered, pulling on my clothes. "Protect the tunnels to the underground chambers at all costs. Sienna must not be disturbed."
Damon nodded and ran to spread the word. I closed my eyes, feeling for the pack bonds that connected me to every wolf under my protection. They were awake now, alert, afraid but ready to fight.
