I walk towards the island where they are "Thank you ma, but i uh..i don't drink" I point to the glass of wine in her hand.
This time they both exchange a look before bursting out laughing.
"Oh my gosh, no no honey, who do you think we are" She taps her glass "Its fruit wine, there's no Alcohol in it"
"Oh,sorry ma i just though..," I say slightly embarrassed not knowing how to complete the sentence "I just thought since you were-"She cuts me off
"Since i was laughing like a mad woman , you thought i was high, yeah i saw the look on your facewhen you walked in,"They laugh again.
"Yeah kinda" I shrug taking a seat on one of the island stools
"What can i say I'm just too funny" Mrs Patridge chimes in.
"She is," My mom confirms, taking the last swig of her non alchoholic beverage.
She takes the seat next to me squeezing my shoulders and pressing a kiss to my cheek, i lean into her, the smell of her coconuts and vanilla shampoo enveloping me
I haven't seen my mom look this..what is the word free?, happy? In …i honestly don't think i have ever seen her like this before,with a friend that is not from work, she looks so unbothered and relaxed it makes me happy, but also sad at the same time because i have never for once seen her this happy and smiley about anything in the entirety of my life.
She deserves to get more of these kind of carefree moments that make her forget all her problems, moments where she is just living her life for her not as a mother, not as a wife just as a person.
