Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Sea and Storm

"Are you ready?" Kojou asked, staring at Godou, who was clad in blue armor, gripping a trident that radiated crushing pressure.

After killing Poseidon, Godou had acquired Divine Physiology, Semi-immortality, and Hydrokinesis—but the most critical prize was Poseidon's personal weapon, the Trident.

"Yeah." Godou nodded, pointing the spear's tip toward Kojou but not attacking. It seemed he was granting Kojou the first move.

"Then I won't hold back." Golden lightning crackled around Kojou as he spoke. He had no intention of using Words of Power against Godou—it would end the fight instantly. Instead, he activated Authority: Goat, the power to control golden lightning.

Rumble

With a flick of his hand, Kojou launched three massive concentrated bolts of lightning at Godou.

Swish

Seeing the incoming bolts, Godou didn't panic. Water materialized around him, and he unleashed towering waves to intercept the lightning.

Boom

In a deafening explosion, the water swallowed Kojou's attack effortlessly, then surged forward with even greater force—now electrified by the lingering lightning.

'Is this all he's got?' Godou frowned. Though water neutralized lightning, the bolts Kojou had fired were suspiciously weak.

"You fell for it." Kojou's voice came from behind Godou. The lightning bolts had been a distraction. Using Authority: Bird of Prey (Raptor), he'd teleported behind Godou, his body now sheathed in divine golden lightning.

This wasn't ordinary lightning—it was divine retribution, meant to punish sinners. And as Campione, who rebelled against the gods by slaughtering them, Godou was its perfect target.

"Tch!" Godou clicked his tongue in annoyance. Dodging was impossible now, so he hastily formed a water shield over his back to mitigate the damage.

Boom

Kojou didn't hesitate. His fist, charged with divine lightning, struck Godou's body. Even with Divine Physiology reducing most damage, the lightning's punitive nature amplified its effect on a Campione—a heretic who defied the gods by killing them.

"His Majesty is far more skilled in combat than the 8th Campione," remarked Ena, watching the battle with excitement. A fight between Campione was a rare spectacle.

"Unlike the 8th Campione, Kojou was already strong enough to slay a Heretic God before becoming one," added Erica, who knew Kojou better than most. "The 8th Campione only won by chance, using a fragment of Gungnir as an ordinary high school student."

"Now that you mention it, I heard the 8th Campione was just a normal kid before killing Poseidon," Ena recalled her friend Yuri's words. "Does that mean he stands no chance against His Majesty?"

"Not necessarily." Erica shook her head, eyes fixed on the dissipating dust where Godou stood. "Campione defy the impossible. Anything could happen—especially since Kojou's treating this as a training dummy to adapt to his new power."

"…" Ena blinked in shock, staring at Kojou. She'd never imagined the King of Campione, rulers of the world, could be used as a sparring puppet.

"Cough! Cough!…" Godou spat blood. Without his Divine Physiology, that last strike would've reduced him to ashes—even with a Campione's endurance.

"No need to hold back if you're doing the same," Godou muttered, shifting into a piercing stance. Harnessing water pressure and the speed of Divine Physiology, he lunged at Kojou.

Unfortunately, Godou didn't realize Kojou was restraining himself—he'd even deactivated Title: The Fourth Primogenitor, which amplified his power. Though he could reactivate it anytime, he refused. This fight was about testing his raw strength as a Campione, so he wouldn't rely on Beast Vassals either.

"Too slow." Kojou reappeared beside Godou. Authority: Bird of Prey (Raptor) had no usage limits; a single thought triggered it.

"Expected that." Godou smirked, firing a high-pressure water jet at Kojou. After witnessing Kojou's speed, he knew surprise attacks were his only option—otherwise, Kojou would evade everything.

Boom

The water hit like a freight train, blasting Kojou airborne before he crashed meters away.

"I'll admit, compressing water to this degree is impressive," Kojou wiped blood from his lip. "But pressurized water alone won't defeat me."

"True." Godou nodded, levitating into the air and aiming his trident again. "But never underestimate water. It gives life… and takes it."

Swish

Swish

Swish

As Godou spoke, their surroundings began flooding. He was summoning the sea—Poseidon's domain, the territory of the God of Oceans.

"Seriously…?" Kojou grimaced as the colosseum transformed into an ocean. Though his Beast Vassal could easily end this, he resisted. Victory wasn't the goal; he'd fight to the limit as a Campione, even if it meant losing. Only by mastering his new power without shortcuts would this battle have meaning.
