Chapter 13 - A Goal to Work Towards

[I apologize for the confusion, but you don't really have much time! Don't reply verbally; we're connected enough for your projected thoughts to be able to reach me.]

Now I'm just even more confused.

'What's happening, and why are the screens that I made showing messages that I didn't make?' I questioned wearily.

[It's kind of funny that you'd say that. You see, you didn't really create anything, you only customized what was already there!]

'What!? Explain please, you're kind of just saying stuff and then leaving me with nothing but more and more questions.'

[I apologize once again, but I shall reiterate that you don't have much time. In fact, you have around 30 seconds before you pass out!]

'Oh, that part isn't exactly surprising. I knew there had to be some form of drawback when it came to absorbing divine energy.'

[Great deduction Host!]

'So what exactly can you tell me before I'm out cold?'

[You're going to be the one to take the multiverse by storm.]

'The multiverse?' I think to myself in wonder, my world dissolving into darkness as my confusion grows evermore.

- 5 Minutes Later -

"Noah get up, we have to go now!"

My eyes snap open to the sight of a frightened Thalia, eyes wide, frantically pulling me to my feet and outside of the van. Gathering my bearings, I look ahead to find the rest of my quest-mates, Thalia included, booking it for the train station. I have so many questions.

Who carried me here? If I'm being honest, my money's on Thalia.

Also another thing, but how long has it been since I passed out? I somehow didn't wake up from Zoe's driving skills, and now we're running into a subway station. My final question though…why is Zoe kinda…

Let me stop myself before she somehow hears my thoughts and shoots me; I'm getting way too distracted.

Taking one last moment to turn around and grab my glittering spoil of war from within the van, I take off after them, stumbling a bit as I do so.

In an attempt to get a look at our pursuers, I turn my head and see gray men in camouflage outfits that are even more gray than their skin is. Then there's the military helicopter flying above us. Without any reservation, I turn right back around and continue running.

It didn't take me long to catch up to the others, and once I did so we're already hopping onto a train. On said train, I attempted to question them on our situation.

"So does anyone want to clue me in on what's going on here?" My words are questioning and said in a joking tone, but after the fight I've just gone through I don't really have the patience for anything less than a full explanation.

"I would love to tell you the beautiful story of my life in the past hour or so, but we can have a debriefing after we get out of here." Percy gives me a look that just screams 'not right now', and I, out of the kindness of my heart, deign to listen to him. Kinda rude, but I'll let it it slide.

Fortunately for me this also gives me the time to ask a certain system some much needed questions.

'Hey uh, system, what are you? You're not some god going crazy and trying to take over my mind, or a really bad hallucination caused by my overuse of divine energy, right?' I asked cautiously within the confines of my mind.

[I am your ticket to unlocking your true potential as a divine being! I am not a hallucination nor am I a divine being; I'm your guide.]

'What do you mean by "your true potential as a divine being", and what's in it for you?' I thought skeptically.

[I am the manifestation of your innate connection to all of existence and non-existence. I have no thoughts, no feelings, nor a body to speak of. I exist only to serve.]

I don't know if I really believe what it's telling me, but I'll go with it for now. Even without the system, I'm technically halfway to godhood if you really think about it.

Get it, because I'm a half-blood?

I'm sorry, I'll focus now.

'If you say so, I guess. Anyways, riddle me this, how exactly are you going to help me?' I responded.

[My functions are structured in a way that allows me to streamline your growth and maximize your innate potential. For example, here's your current status: ]

[Name: Noah]

[Divine Rank: Demigod]

[Divine Energy: 32%]

[Perks: |Demigod Physiology| |Longevity| |Prodigious|]

[Divine Skills: |Light Manipulation| |Singing| |Archery| |Prophecy| |Healing|]

[Domains: Locked]

[Total Faith: None]

[Miracles: Locked]

[More functions will be unlocked with time.]

If I'm being honest, the entire thing is self explanatory for the most part. Well, except for the faith and miracles part. Kinda sad to see that my starburst energy got switched out to divine energy, but I guess I'll just deal with it.

'Hey System, can you explain to me what's going on with the whole faith and miracles thing?' I think I have somewhat of an idea, but it'd be better to get a concrete answer.

[Faith is how many people believe in you, but they have to truly believe in you for you to get any points. Different levels give different amounts of points. Faith will be unlocked when you meet the requirements, and no, I will not be stating them.]

[Miracles on the other hand can be gained through achievements. Think of them as buffs and rewards for your escapades.]

'I mean I'd like to think that I've got some achievements, but I digress. Is that everything for now?'

[Just one more thing. To start you off, I shall be giving you access to the quest function. Congratulations on unlocking your first two Divine Quests!]

[Divine Quest: Save Your Auntie!]

Objectives:

- Rescue Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt

Rewards:

|One Miracle| |Gacha System Activation| |Random Divine Weapon|

[Divine Quest: Path to Immortality]

- Drain the divinity from (1/3) beings

- Obtain One Miracle

Reward:

|Divine Rank Up|

Now this is something I can get behind. I've been considering what weapon I want for a while now, so I'm interested in seeing what I might get. Not to mention the fact that the [Gacha System] sounds very promising; I might just get a gambling addiction after all of this too.

Looking at all of my quest-mates, I genuinely think that we can do this. I don't care how far I have to go, but I'm gonna make sure that everyone makes it out of here. Prophecy or not, no one is dying on my watch, not now that I have this.

'System, you better get ready. We're going to do many great and terrible things together.' I think mentally, trying to fight back a grin.

[I wouldn't have it any other way, Host.]
