Shisui groaned in pain, staring at the black rod embedded in his shoulder.

"I could fight them… but that won't stop the Uchiha from being annihilated."
"Protecting is far harder than killing. And those guys… aren't easy opponents."
"Forget the Akatsuki for a second. Just look at the Root shinobi—each one is terrifying."
Naruto glanced toward them.
Danzo was launching Vacuum Bullets—compressed gales of wind sharp enough to pierce bodies like spears.
Uchiha shinobi and civilians alike were being skewered.
Near Danzo stood his two most loyal subordinates: Torune of the Aburame clan, and Fu from the Yamanaka.
Torune released swarms of purple kikaichū bugs. Unlike normal bugs, his were poisonous, killing Uchiha with a touch.
Fu used Shintenshin no Jutsu to take control of Uchiha shinobi and force them to kill their comrades.
Shisui clenched his teeth so hard he nearly broke them.
He knew Naruto was right.
There were at least eight fighters at the elite jōnin level here.
Even at his peak, Shisui would've been overwhelmed.
"So this is how the Uchiha ends…"
He stared ahead in despair.
"Not necessarily." Naruto grinned as he looked at some Uchiha in the distance.
"I can't save all of them—but I can help some escape. I don't want the entire clan to vanish."
Shisui's hope was rekindled.
The three of them rushed through the ruined streets and soon found a group of wounded Uchiha shinobi escorting children.
The Uchiha shouted in desperation:
"No good! Root shinobi are lying in wait outside—they attack on sight!"
"We can't escape! The outer barrier is still holding!"
"I even saw Anbu out there…"
Upon hearing this, the others fell into despair.
Now they knew—
This wasn't some outside attack.
It was Konoha.
It was an extermination.
Without preparation, they couldn't fight back—couldn't even run.
"Damn it… If only Shisui were still alive… our clan wouldn't have ended up like this!"
More Uchiha shouted in fury.
Just then, Naruto and Shisui appeared beside them.
"Let's get the kids out first," Naruto said calmly.
He looked at the children behind the Uchiha and nodded in satisfaction. Then, in front of them all, he opened a space-time portal.
The Uchiha recognized Shisui at once.
"Shisui-sama! You came to save us!"
They looked at him with tearful joy.
They didn't know how he was alive—but they knew what his presence meant.
He was the clan's strongest. Known as Shunshin no Shisui. The strongest genjutsu user of the Uchiha.
Shisui gave them a bitter smile.
"I… I came to save you, yes…"
The surrounding shinobi's eyes dimmed again at his tone.
But Naruto ignored it. He waved his hand, directing the children to enter the portal one by one.
Shisui hesitated for two seconds, then gave in.
The situation was clear.
Staying here meant death.
Only escape offered a chance.
One by one, the children entered the portal—Naruto led them far away, all the way to Otogakure.
Ten minutes later…
The Uchiha district was reduced to rubble.
Under the relentless assault of Pain, Konan, and Tobi, there were almost no survivors left.
Naruto didn't linger. He stepped back into the portal and vanished from the burning wreckage.
The three attackers noticed, but made no move to stop him.
Tobi murmured quietly:
"Konan said he knows a lot about Akatsuki… and even knows who I really am…"
"…Who is he, really?"
