Chapter 36 - Gravity 101

Rio POV

The dust is barely settling from my glorious Table Flip when I feel it—the ground trembling, slow at first, then stronger, like the heartbeat of something ancient waking up.

Roxanne smirks, brushing rubble off her shoulder. "Cute trick, Rio. But let's see how you handle this."

She reaches for her Mega Stone, fingers steady, eyes gleaming. I watch as the familiar shape slams onto the field—her Tyranitar, already massive, already radiating that crushing aura of sandstorm fury. The air thickens as the stone on her wrist flares.

The explosion of energy nearly blinds me. Black scales gleam like polished obsidian, spikes sharper, thicker. The sandstorm roars to life, whipping around us in a frenzy. Mega Tyranitar looms over me, a walking mountain with glowing eyes locked onto mine.

Rotom, of course, helpfully slaps a neon label across my vision:"MEGA TYRANITAR REVENGE ARC: BEGIN"

I groan, squinting through the sand. "Really? You're bringing that out again? It didn't work the first time, how will it be any better now?"

Roxanne grins. "What, scared? Thought your fancy Table Flip would end the match?"

Null thumps his tail like he's enjoying this way too much. Ralts edges back, her psychic shield flickering up against the swirling sand. Combusken bawks from the sidelines, feathers puffed up, looking like she's two seconds from tagging herself in.

I roll my shoulders, cursed energy crackling like lightning under my skin. That damned pink glow starts creeping through my fur again. Of course. Princess Bubblegum mode engaged. Couldn't have waited five minutes, huh?

Across the field, Mega Tyranitar roars, loud enough to rattle my teeth.

"ROAAAAAARRR!!!"

I wince, raising a paw to shield my ears. "Ugh, don't you know what a toothbrush is? Arceus, your breath could drop a Wailord at fifty paces."

The beast stomps forward, each step shaking the ground like an earthquake in miniature. The sandstorm whips around us, grit stinging my face.

Rotom's screen lights up with a new neon caption:"RIO VS MEGA TYRANITAR ROUND 2: PINK FLASH VS DINO DENTURES"

Roxanne's grin widens. "She's stronger this time, Rio, and we learned from the last time too. Hope you've got more than just table-flipping and trash talk."

I smirk, crouching low, cursed energy swirling tighter around my fists. "Oh, don't worry. I've got plenty of new stuff to show too."

Null's tail thumps faster. Combusken lets out another hyped-up bawk. Ralts presses both hands to her cheeks, nervous as all hell.

"Alright, big girl," I mutter, eyes locking on Tyranitar as he charges. "Let's see if I can redecorate the battlefield with your face."

I grin as the clap of my movement echoes through the arena, the afterimage of where I was still shimmering as I appear right in front of Mega Tyranitar's hulking form. The sandstorm whips at my fur, ruffling my sides but not doing any damage, Steel typing for the win.

Now I know I probably wouldn't stand a chance if she starts spamming earthquakes again now that my arial advantage is gone, but...

"I just need to get YOU off the ground so you don't have the chance!"

Cursed energy flares through my arms, pink glow surging brighter as I slam both palms into her chest. It's like hitting a boulder with delusions of grandeur, but I pour everything into the strike — the force, the momentum, the sheer stubborn refusal to lose.

The ground beneath us shatters, spiderweb cracks spreading outwards as the shockwave hits. Mega Tyranitar's claws dig deep into the stone, but I feel her weight shift — a split-second loss of balance. Her feet lift — not far, not clean, but off the ground.

Rotom goes wild, its screen flashing:"PINK FLASH SPECIAL: EARTHQUAKE THIS, DINO!"

Roxanne's jaw drops. "What the hell?!"

I follow up with a CE-fueled Mach Punch right into her gut, the impact pushing her up just enough to give me some breathing room and time to think.

Without hesitation, I slip past her bulk, wrapping both arms around her spiked tail. The sheer weight and jagged edges don't deter me — I tighten my grip and pivot with every ounce of cursed strength I've got.

The arena trembles violently beneath us as I heave her off the ground. It's like trying to toss a mountain, but somehow, the colossal Mega Tyranitar moves with me.

Null's tail wags like a frenzied fan, Combusken lets out a fired-up bawk, and Ralts covers her mouth, eyes wide.

"C'mon!" I growl through clenched teeth, muscles burning. "Let's see how you like flying lessons!"

And just like that, we have takeoff!

Tyranitar sails forward a dozen meters before slamming into the ground, the painful looking impact making a lightbulb appear over my head. I turn my gaze upwards, where maybe hundreds of stone shards float in the air—while meant for me...

I fire off two more cursed energy beacons, sticking one to the Tyranitar struggling to get up from her crater, and another inside the densest part of the sea of floating rocks. If Todo could do it, why can't I? Do I really have to target myself too?

I clap, activating what has become my favourite ability—yes, better than shrine in my opinion—and watch as the green titan's form shimmers away, suddenly appearing on the ceiling, and starting a very, very painful descent.

| May POV |

Is his dad Palkia or something? Seriously, where did Rio learn that move? Actually, scratch that—it's not worth the headache.

I take a long sip from my third cup of coffee today and just watch.

Rio's been dropping Tyranitar over and over for the last thirty minutes, slamming her through that minefield of Stealth Rocks like some kind of demolition expert. Every single one of those jagged stones has been shattered or cleared by now, the ground littered with shattered rock and dust.

Tyranitar's already reached terminal velocity, and still, Rio just won't stop. The poor thing's falling faster and harder with every toss, and honestly? I'm starting to wonder if the gym's going to survive this rematch.

"Will Rio be okay?"

I glance down at the worried looking Ralts, now endearingly nicknamed Stardust, and look back up towards the field, "Honestly? I'm more worried about Roxanne's Tyranitar... I think she went unconscious ten minutes ago..."

I look over to Roxanne's area, and she looks devastated... Shouldn't we we stop the match already?
