Rain
His face was pale, eyes wide like he hadn't expected to be thrown into this mess either. And then I saw Kai sitting on his stupid golden podium above us, grinning like a snake, slicing a hand across his throat in a clear gesture: kill her.
So that was the game.
I tightened my grip on my twin blades. "What the hell are you doing here?" My voice was cold as ice.
He took a hesitant step forward, palms up. "Rain… I don't want to fight you."
I laughed, a wild, sharp sound. "You don't have a choice." I raised my blades. "Come to finish me off, huh? Should've brought a bigger knife."
"Rain, listen to me. I'm not who you think I am. I'm on your side."
"On my side?" I spat. "You're exactly who I think you are—a murderer. And I'm gonna have your head mounted on a spike by the time this night's over."
The bell clanged again.
No more talking.
