Anne's gaze remained on the door, but the person who entered wasn't the person she was expecting.
Her eyes flickered, and a slight hint of disappointment showed in them.
So it wasn't him after all.
Butler Jones stood respectfully at the entrance. Seeing the hint of disappointment in the young woman's eyes, he knew exactly who she'd been expecting.
"Miss Thompson, Master is currently caught up. He instructed me to tell you that you can either choose to wait for him or you may leave and return next—"
"I'll wait!"
Anne had replied too quickly; in turn, her face turned a deep red when the butler revealed a surprised expression at her quick answer.
What would the butler think of her for replying so quickly?
Anne felt like turning back time and answering calmly instead, but she had already blurted out the words so hastily.
