"Who's she?" Kyle asks, his voice calm, too low to carry weight, his expression unreadable.
Tanner and Jess don't answer immediately. There's a pause between them, brief but loaded, before Jess finally responds, "Charlotte's daughter."
Kyle's head snaps up, shocked, a crease forming sharply between his brows. "What? I mean, how comes?" he asks, the disbelief raw and open on his face.
Jess exhales. "She had a child long ago, but she abandoned her. Probably because she didn't want anyone to know about it. She only went for her when she needed to get to Ashen. She wanted to use her to get to him. We don't know exactly what she was planning to do to him... but she had her lure Ashen in," Jess explains.
His tone is steady, but every word tightens something inside Kyle.
"So why is she here?" Kyle asks, slower this time, as if trying to grasp each piece before accepting it.
