"Sonic...time to wake up." "Mmm..." He slowly opens his eyes and looks up to see Shadow next to him. "What time is it?" "It's six in the morning. I need to do your physical as soon as we get you checked in." Sonic nodded his head and started getting up with him. It was the day of Sonic's surgery and he was feeling a little nervous. Shadow went through the whole procedure with him and explained he'll be there with him the whole time so he's not alone. He decided to skip breakfast since Sonic couldn't eat or drink anything after midnight until after the surgery is done. As soon as they finish getting ready they go to the car and head to HQ.
A few minutes later they arrive and get checked in. They went into their assigned room and Sonic changed out of his clothes into the hospital gown. Shadow went through the physical with him and wrote everything down. "You have improved a lot in the last couple weeks. I'm really proud of you love." Sonic smiled seeing his boyfriend happy.
There was a knock at the door catching their attention. The door opened and Molly walks in closing the door behind her. "Morning boys" "Morning Molly. I just finished his physical for you." Shadow hands her the clipboard and she looks through everything he wrote down. "Everything looks good. Are you feeling ready Sonic?" He nodded his head. "Shadow e-explained how it will work l-last night." Sonic's voice was quiet but Shadow and Molly still heard him.
He got on the bed while Molly went to get the staff helping with the surgery to get him moved to the operating room. Shadow stayed by his side as promised after he locked their things into the cabinet. "Are we coming back into this room after the surgery Shads?" "Yeah so we'll just leave everything in here." He gives his boyfriend a kiss on his forehead and holds his hand. The door opens and a couple nurses come in ready to escort them to the operating room. The nurses are on either side of the bed pushing it down the hall while Shadow is holding Sonic's hand.
Once Sonic was settled on the operating table everyone was getting ready for the surgery. He was mainly watching his boyfriend as a nurse helped him get scrubs put on. As soon as Shadow is done he was right back at Sonic's side. "Okay love Molly is going to put a small needle in your arm. This will be used for whatever fluids and medicine she needs to give you." Sonic slowly nodded his head understanding what he said.
He looked up at Molly. "Remember the signal you and I discussed before. Make sure you give a warning when you're about to put the needle in." "You got it Shadow." He looks back at his boyfriend interlocking fingers with his left hand while helping him make a fist with his right hand and leans down kissing him on the lips. Sonic kisses back while Molly finds a vein in his arm. "You'll feel a pinch in three two one." "Mmm!" He squeezes Shadow's hand feeling the needle go in. She makes sure it's all secure and then taps on Shadow's shoulder indicating she's done.
He gently broke the kiss so Sonic can catch his breath. "You feeling okay Sonic?" He nodded his head letting Shadow gently wipe away any tears that try to escape. Once he was done he moved above Sonic's head taking the gas mask from one of the nurses. "This will put you to sleep so don't fight it. You won't feel a thing and by the time you wake up we'll be back in the room we were in earlier. Are you ready?" "R-ready as I'll e-ever be."
Shadow gently stroked Sonic's cheek with his left hand while using his right to put the mask over his nose and mouth. "Just breathe normally and it will be over before you know it." He did what he was told and didn't fight it when his eyes started to become heavy. Shadow was watching the whole time while still stroking his cheek to keep his boyfriend relaxed. Once Sonic was fully asleep he gave Molly the okay to start.
"Alright everyone we need to get the bullet out carefully and avoid anything vital." Shadow watches as they do the surgery while keeping an eye on Sonic's heartbeat. It took a couple hours since they didn't have a lot of room to work with but Molly was able to get the bullet out in one piece. "Everything looks good. Let's close him up." Shadow was really happy to see the surgery was a success. As soon as he was out of the scrubs and Sonic was carefully moved back to the bed the nurses escorted them back to the room. Molly stayed in the operating room to talk to Richard about the bullet they found. They immediately started him on pain medication and antibiotics. Even though he was still sleeping Shadow kept his promise staying by his boyfriend's side no matter what.
