Chapter 53 - Interlude - A Date Along the Way (Part 2)

The first stop of their date was the flower garden courtyard in front of the castle.

Because this place was protected by a Grand Isolation Barrier,

No matter what the weather was like, it would never affect the flowers here.

Therefore, during the cold winter snow season—

This courtyard, built by Flamme and Agusheed using Magic of Blooming Flowers, could be called a dating paradise.

Not only did it combine a romantic environment with beautiful scenery,

But it was also dotted with many rare famous flowers that the couple had collected from around the world.

If any normal married couple or lovers were standing here,

They would probably feel their affection warming up.

But unfortunately—

When the husband is an unromantic Grand Demon,

No matter how passionate and gentle his wife is, he cannot feel this sentiment.

"What, are you dissatisfied with the place I chose?"

Walking side by side on the corridor through the vast sea of flowers in the courtyard,

Flamme looked at Agusheed's face, which hadn't shown much emotional change from beginning to end, and asked.

"Do I look like I'm very dissatisfied with this place?"

Regarding his wife's inexplicable question, Agusheed looked down and asked.

Flamme chuckled softly, lifted her skirt, and walked forward on the path covered with flower petals.

Her carefully chosen white dress complemented the blooming flowers around her.

Where her skirt brushed past, the petals trembled slightly, releasing an even richer fragrance.

"You do."

Sunlight filtered through Flamme's light red hair as she turned her head and answered softly.

Agusheed clasped his hands behind his back, his black robe motionless in the breeze.

He looked around.

The magically bloomed flowers in the courtyard really couldn't be considered much of a scenery in his eyes.

However... he hadn't developed any so-called 'dissatisfaction' in his heart because of this.

"Very much like it?"

"I just think this place is no different from usual."

"After all, everything here was created by us together..."

Agusheed's voice was low and steady, as casual as discussing the weather.

Hearing this, Flamme stopped walking and turned slightly to face her husband.

"We're on a date right now. Talking like that really kills the mood..."

She laughed softly while reaching out to brush away a petal that had fallen on her husband's shoulder.

"Did I upset you?"

Agusheed's eyes reflected his wife's helplessness, and he fell silent for a while.

Then, under his wife's 'hopeless' gaze, he opened his mouth as always and said:

"Sorry..."

Agusheed's apology was only half-finished.

But Flamme's fingertip had already gently touched the corner of his mouth.

"You mustn't say such things to a girl during a date—"

Brushing over those predictably tense lips, Flamme slightly curved her mouth.

"A husband who only apologizes will be disliked by his wife."

Regarding Flamme's romance lesson, Agusheed nodded thoughtfully.

"So there's such a saying... In that case, have you already started disliking me?"

Looking at her husband who indeed took her words completely seriously,

Flamme mischievously tilted her head, pretending to think.

"Not yet."

"But if you don't make me happy soon, it won't be long before I start disliking you."

Agusheed caught his wife's hand that was gradually sliding from the corner of his mouth to his chest.

He gripped Flamme's wrist, letting her fingertips rest on his chest.

"How should I make you happy?"

Agusheed asked very seriously.

"It's simple—"

Flamme's answer was very gentle, with a hint of coquettishness.

After secretly using magic to make the surrounding flowers bloom even more brilliantly,

She continued to tell her husband:

"You just need to smile at me more."

Agusheed frowned and thought for a moment, as if this was a problem that required careful consideration.

"Must I smile?"

"You must smile."

After a moment's hesitation,

Agusheed mechanically moved the corners of his mouth, trying to make himself look less stiff.

"That's too perfunctory. We're on a date... at least pretend to be happy."

Flamme sighed, her fingers unconsciously twirling a strand of her hair.

But Agusheed was very frank, honest to the point of cruelty:

"But I don't feel very happy right now."

He reached out to catch a falling petal and gently crushed it between his fingertips.

A faint magenta stained his pale fingers.

"Idiot..."

Flamme murmured softly, her voice mixing helplessness with indulgence.

She suddenly stepped forward, closing the distance between herself and her husband.

Then slowly stood on her tiptoes and placed a light kiss on Agusheed's cheek.

The floral fragrance from Flamme's hair and the warmth from her lips were transmitted to Agusheed's cold skin.

After a moment of surprise, he saw Flamme step back half a step and raise her eyebrows.

"Are you a little happier now?"

Flamme's question made Agusheed blink unnaturally.

He reached out to pinch his wife's soft, warm cheek.

His movements were practiced but didn't contain any other inappropriate emotions.

"I just find it inexplicable."

Inexplicable...

This word didn't make Flamme very happy.

She puffed out her cheeks and helplessly kissed Agusheed's cheek again.

Then, looking at Agusheed who still had an 'inexplicable' expression on his face,

Flamme rubbed her temples and said with some exasperation:

"Your performance is really too much..."

"Faced with your wife's initiative kiss, you should be happily covering your face and falling to the ground."

Agusheed lowered his head. Although he felt Flamme was just being unreasonable,

He still accommodatingly responded:

"If you had said so beforehand, I could try to cooperate with you."

Flamme fell silent.

After embracing Agusheed's neck and stubbornly kissing him again, she complained softly:

"That's why I say you're an idiot..."

Agusheed didn't refute. He just continued to accommodate Flamme.

Whether in actions or words.

Until he accompanied her to the end of the flower sea.

Agusheed, who thought Flamme's so-called 'date' had ended here, was about to say he wanted to go back to decode the spell book.

But Flamme's next action made him abandon his plan.

"Let's go, we're going to the next location."

Flamme hooked onto Agusheed's displaced fingers and pulled him toward the deep forest.

"So there's a next one?"

Agusheed asked.

"Of course."

Flamme slowed her pace, her fingertips caressing the back of her husband's hand.

"We're dating for the whole day. It would be too boring to stay in just one place."

"According to your plan, how many more places are we going?"

Agusheed's words made Flamme revisit her plan.

"Hmm, let me think..."

Just for a short while,

Agusheed heard Flamme begin to narrate the places she planned to go, word by word—

"From the flower garden courtyard to the central ancient tree."

"From the Heaven Vein mine to the Heart Lake."

"Oh right, there's also..."

Listening to everything except the first one—

All the other places were where he liked to be alone and lost in thought.

Agusheed looked at his wife who was still eloquently describing her plan and spoke softly.

"Flamme, I always feel you know me too well."

Hearing Agusheed's words, Flamme showed a matter-of-fact expression.

"Isn't that normal? We've been living together for almost twenty years..."

Almost twenty years—

This number was so brief that it couldn't stir any waves in Agusheed's heart.

"Just barely under twenty years..."

Agusheed spoke in terms that short-lived species would find difficult to understand:

"Flamme, I've only just reached the stage of knowing you superficially."

Superficially...

Superficially?

This rather cruel statement didn't make Flamme show any disappointed expression.

She just reached out and gently caressed her husband's face.

Looking at Agusheed's deep but emotionless eyes,

Flamme, with excitement that Agusheed couldn't understand, raised the corners of her mouth and smiled faintly:

"I see..."

"Agusheed, so you already know me superficially?"
