Chapter 83 - [83] Crafting Scrolls

Boom!

A heavy thud echoed as Adam's kick landed on the Archangel Flame's chest armor.

The archangel staggered back uncontrollably, retreating about three meters before its wings beat fiercely, stabilizing its form.

Adam's gaze settled on the archangel's chest. Aside from a slight dent in the armor, it showed no real damage.

"Not bad for a tank. Its defensive strengths really stand out." Adam said, a grin spreading across his face.

Angels, demons, and undead, these three types of summons held a slight edge over other same-tier creatures.

Angels boasted superior physical resistance.

Demons excelled in magical resistance.

Undead? Their strength lay in numbers, perhaps.

Moreover, the higher their level, the more special abilities these summons gained.

"Let's see what's inside that armor." Adam said, twirling his iron sword, a cold glint in his eyes.

With a swift step, he charged at the Archangel Flame.

Swish!

The archangel raised its fiery sword, slashing down.

But Adam was faster.

"Quick Slash!"

A chilling streak of light flashed through the air. The archangel's silver chest armor erupted in sharp, piercing clangs as sparks flew.

Crack!

The sturdy armor split under the iron sword's assault, and the archangel crashed toward the floor.

Thankfully, Adam reacted quickly, grabbing its wing and yanking it back into the air, preventing a ground-shattering impact.

Silencer only muted sound. That kind of force would've punched a hole in the floor.

"Phew." Adam exhaled. "Almost got caught."

He peered at the gash in the archangel's chest. "Nothing inside, huh?"

Only a faint white glow emanated from within.

Boom!

The archangel's body shuddered, dissolving into motes of light.

"Decent durability." Adam noted, glancing at his experience bar on the attribute panel. "No experience from summoned creatures, though. Pity."

"Compared to a same-level warrior, this Archangel Flame's attacks are predictable, and its speed isn't great." He assessed. "But its solid physical resistance and flight make it a good staller against peers."

"If you had a few of them…"

Adam turned to the stack of white paper on the table, a smile creeping onto his face.

"Even a strong Warrior-Captain would be worn down to death."

In the anime, the Slane Theocracy's Sunlight Scripture, one of the Six Scriptures, sent to assassinate Warrior-Captain Gazef Stronoff, could've overwhelmed him with summoned Archangel Flames alone, no need for their leader, Nigun, to intervene, had Ainz not stepped in. All it cost was some mana.

Adam returned to the table, picking up a sheet of second-tier paper. "I forgot to ask if second-tier scrolls absolutely need sheepskin."

"Let's find out."

"Scroll Making!"

Adam placed his hands over the papers, chanting silently.

Rustle! Rustle!

The sheets stirred without wind, dozens converging toward the center.

In a single breath, a pure white magic scroll formed in Adam's hand.

"Huh? It worked?"

Adam stared at the effortlessly crafted scroll, momentarily stunned.

Whether crafting alchemical potions or healing draughts, he'd always hit snags. This sudden success felt almost alien.

"It's pure white, unlike the Magician's Guild's sheepskin-mixed scrolls." Adam observed, comparing it to the remaining papers. "The count's off, too."

From 1,400 sheets, only 1,380 remained.

So, crafting this scroll consumed 20 second-tier sheets.

If he recalled correctly, the Magician's Guild used one sheepskin and ten second-tier sheets per scroll.

"So the Guild mixes in sheepskin not just for mana stability but to cut down on paper use?" Adam raised an eyebrow.

Indeed, sheepskin was far cheaper than mana-infused paper.

"Now, to infuse the magic."

Adam's expression grew serious. He unfurled the white scroll, lightly touching its center with a finger.

Per Berolay's method, infusing the desired spell required precise mana control and a deep understanding of the spell itself.

This world's casters mastered magic through study, practice, and insight.

Adam? He just spent skill points.

This cheat-like approach meant he barely understood the spells he wielded.

He knew this well but noticed that Berolay's method of infusing scrolls resembled his Magic Swordsman passive, Magic Infusion.

Back in the Great Forest of Tob, he'd used this ability to craft viable alchemical potions. It might work for scrolls, too.

"Success hinges on this passive." Adam said, pressing his finger firmly onto the scroll. "Magic Infusion!"

Boom!

The white scroll jolted, its surface flaring with blue light as mana flowed, creating an invisible pull.

The violent tremor startled Adam. He'd seen scrolls explode at the Magician's Guild, a vivid memory.

Seeing the scroll settle without detonating, he breathed a sigh of relief.

Focusing, Adam channeled the second-tier Summon Angel into the scroll.

One second.

Two seconds.

Five seconds.

Ten seconds.

If Berolay's scroll-making was a display of finesse and fluidity, Adam's was brute force.

Whoosh!

The scroll shuddered again, its blue glow contracting. It rolled itself up, landing on the table.

"It worked?"

Adam blinked, staring at the faintly glowing scroll. He immediately cast a spell.

"Item Appraisal!"

[Item: Magic Item · Craft · Magic Scroll]]

[Tier: Second]

[Description: Contains the spell Summon Angel.]

"It actually worked!"

Adam exclaimed, joyfully ruffling the Invisible Hound's head beside him.

His eyes flickered with excitement. "I thought I'd missed my chance, but now I might be able to plan for that special magic item."

Others might not know, but Adam did: in E-Rantel, there was a magic item graded High-Tier (Level 40), just shy of Legendary.

It was the highest-grade magic item he could realistically obtain at this stage.

Originally, Adam planned to pursue the Cursed Knight class, return from the Baharuth Empire, and then seek this item.

Now, with scroll-making mastered, his odds had surged.

The danger, however, remained sky-high.
