Chapter 98 - [98] Negative Status

After Imina left, Adam sat on the stone chair, pulling a deep blue alchemical potion from his coat. This potion was different from the ones sold.

The potions Imina peddled were light blue, carrying a faint bloody odor due to their dilution.

For common folk and low-tier adventurers, the smell wasn't an issue.

The low-grade healing potions sold in potion workshops, infused with the scent of various herbs, often smelled even worse.

With comparable effects and a dirt-cheap price, it was no surprise Adam's alchemical potions were a hit.

[Item: Magic · Alchemical Solution (Regeneration Potion)]

[Rank: Low-tier]

[Description: Restores 20 HP, excels at wound recovery, and can temporarily alleviate certain "Limb Loss" negative status effects (potion effects last 30 days).]

This was the true effect of the undiluted Regeneration Potion. The diluted versions Imina sold restored only 3–4 HP.

That number might seem low, but in game terms, most ordinary people in this world had around 10 HP.

The undiluted Regeneration Potion's recovery effect rivaled some high-grade potions sold in workshops, though it still fell far short of the "Blood of the Gods."

The red potion (Low-tier Healing Potion) in Ainz's possession restored 50 HP.

What truly caught Adam's attention about these ogre-blood alchemical potions was their unique ability.

Healing limb loss!

In YGGDRASIL, this was a negative status effect, equivalent to physical dismemberment in reality.

Take the captain of the Rock Team, Dosari, whose leg was crushed by an ogre. Without prompt treatment, he'd likely have been crippled, ending his adventurer career.

Other adventurers frequently lost arms or parts of their bodies in combat or had them devoured by monsters, situations all too common.

Such injuries were beyond the scope of standard healing potions.

Imina's diluted Regeneration Potions targeted the masses, rapidly boosting Adam's fame.

Next, Adam planned to introduce the true Regeneration Potion, aimed at high-end clientele, to further amplify his reputation.

"The diluted potions are one thing, but I wonder if this level of potion can catch the attention of the Bloody Emperor or Fluder."

Adam toyed with the blue potion bottle, murmuring to himself.

The value of this potion far surpassed that of the diluted ones!

There was another way to cure the "Limb Damage" negative status: dying and being revived with the fifth-tier spell Resurrection.

Revival would clear all abnormal statuses.

In the game, this was a common method for removing debuffs.

But Resurrection, the lowest-tier revival spell, caused the revived to lose four levels. In this world, it drained a massive amount of vitality.

If vitality was insufficient, revival was impossible, ordinary people didn't even qualify.

"I'll need to keep an eye out for demi-humans or magical beasts with special abilities." Adam said, standing and walking toward the ogre.

This experience with ogre blood had opened a new avenue of thought.

"Mmgh-"

"Mmgh-"

The ogre, its mouth stuffed with a rag, saw Adam approach. Its eyes gleamed with terror.

For a creature as volatile and reckless as an ogre to show such fear spoke volumes about the torment it had endured.

"Time to trouble you again."

Adam spoke gently, removing the rag from the ogre's mouth. Before it could unleash a roaring curse,

"Human! Hu-mmph!"

A goblin corpse appeared, shoved into the ogre's mouth by Adam.

Starving beyond reason, the ogre's fear and rationality vanished as it devoured the corpse.

It consumed over a dozen goblin corpses before its eating slowed.

The next moment, Adam's hand, formed into a blade, struck the base of the ogre's skull. With a dull Thud. the ogre's eyes rolled back, and it passed out.

Then, Adam produced a paralysis potion made from a Hanging Spider's venom sac and poured it into the ogre's mouth.

"Magic infusion experiment, begin."

With preparations complete, Adam extended a hand glowing with faint blue magical light, pressing a finger against the ogre's rough skin.

This was an experiment he'd recently started.

Having spent half a month in the Imperial Capital, aside from brewing potions and occasionally crafting third-tier scrolls, Adam found himself with ample free time.

He'd taken the opportunity to review his abilities and test ideas he'd long considered.

Under the passive effect of his Magic Swordsman class, Adam forcibly infused mana into the ogre's body.

The ogre's belly, emaciated from repeated blood extractions, began to swell at a visible rate.

No!

It was more like a balloon suddenly inflating.

Then, as if reaching a limit, the swelling stopped, only to spread to the ogre's limbs and entire body.

A lumpy, uneven mass of flesh expanded, twisting the ogre's form into something grotesque, like an indescribable abomination.

Seeing this, Adam paused the Magic Infusion.

He observed the ogre closely for a while.

"The infused mana still can't coexist, but the duration seems slightly longer than before."

Adam shook his head lightly. "A pity there's no other reference point."

"It's unclear whether the ogre's lack of magical aptitude or its weak physical strength makes it unable to withstand the Magic Infusion."

As the experiment ceased, the ogre's regenerative abilities kicked in, gradually restoring its swollen, distorted body to its original shape.

Only such potent regeneration could endure Adam's brutal Magic Infusion method. A human body would have collapsed.

Just as an ordinary iron sword couldn't hold an enchantment, only superior materials could bear such power.

He wondered if Imina could procure another ogre.

Ten years ago, in pursuit of power, an ogre named Go Gin joined the Grand Arena. After defeating the seventh Martial Lord and becoming the new champion, he sent shockwaves through the Empire.

Since then, Imperial merchants had taken an interest in ogres.

Many, like Osk, the Colosseum's operator, sought powerful ogres to gain fame and fortune.

Unfortunately, the Martial Lord wasn't an ordinary ogre. Like Gu, one of the rulers of the Great Forest of Tob, he was a rare Battle Ogre sub-species.

His white hair and beard also hinted at troll ancestry.

This led to many weaker ogres being discarded by merchants. The one Adam had acquired was one such reject.

"You've had it rough."

Adam looked at the still-unconscious ogre, which he'd tormented for so long, feeling a pang of sympathy. He stuffed the rag back into its mouth.

"Once you have some company, it should get easier."

Evening.

A sudden knock, knock sounded at the residence's gate.

Adam, training the Invisible Hound in the courtyard, paused, surprised.

"So polite. Definitely not Imina."

A curious expression crossed Adam's face as he rose and headed toward the courtyard gate.
