And gave me a stern warning never to go to that house again. He also told me that the reason Alaric hadn't killed me yet was because he managed to make a deal with his brother, but he didn't tell me what the deal entailed.
He added that he didn't need to be physically next to me anymore to protect me because Alaric wouldn't go after me anymore.
I was… disappointed, to say the least.
That night, I couldn't sleep. I could see the man on the table vividly, it was as if he was everywhere. I wrapped myself in every blanket I could find. I had washed myself vigorously earlier, as I wiped off the blood from my body. But no matter how much I scrubbed, it still felt like there were residue of the blood on my body.
I kept thinking about it, no matter how hard I tried to justify myself, there was nothing I could do to help him at the time, I was helpless myself.
