The clicking of the glass against the table surface echoed through the silent air. "I hope Maddie is not stressing you out," I asked, it was the least I could do for the real Ember.
She chuckled, but her smile didn't reach her eyes. "Since you left, she hasn't disturbed me." She fidgeted with her fingers. "What about you? What is the Bloodshade pack like? And does Alpha Damon really treat you well?"
"Which question am I supposed to answer if you bombard me like that?" I chuckled.
I took another pastry, putting the whole snack in my mouth.
"I apologize for that. I'm just curious." Her fingers tapped anxiously against the table, and she glanced now and then at the door.
'Why does it feel like something fishy is going on? She looks nervous and distressed; she can't stop glancing at the door as if she's expecting someone. She looks suspicious.' I arched my brows. My eyes moved down to the glass of wine; the red liquid shimmered as if to respond to my suspicion.
