Chapter 121 - Chapter 121: Hell's Kitchen and Mutation

Large numbers of FBI agents broke down doors. The leaders of the underground forces, who had been keeping a low profile, were brought under control, facing over twenty charges.

The same situation occurred in various parts of Hell's Kitchen.

For a time, Hell's Kitchen was in a state of alarm.

Matt should have been happy about this, but he keenly felt that something was wrong.

After taking down a henchman from one of the Hell's Kitchen gangs, Matt pinned him down and interrogated him.

"I don't know, we closed our business during this time, but we were still found out."

Those were the henchman's exact words.

Some people, with their high skill and boldness, wanted to take advantage of the lull after the New York War to expand their business.

Others, however, chose to lay low, preparing to get through this sensitive period safely.

But it was precisely these people who were subjected to large-scale arrests.

On the television news, the FBI received nothing but lavish praise.

Matt found a few more escaped gang members to question, and the results were astonishingly similar.

His keen intuition as a lawyer sensed that something was amiss.

He subsequently investigated in Hell's Kitchen; those arrested gangs didn't have much connection.

Some had even worked for Kingpin, but as Kingpin went to prison, those people developed and gradually broke free from his control.

Matt was unclear about the situation; he could feel an undercurrent surging beneath Hell's Kitchen.

However, as a lawyer, he didn't have the authority to get the FBI to cooperate and help.

In desperation, he thought of John.

That was the most powerful person he knew; as a wealthy man, even the district attorney couldn't do anything to John.

"You want to investigate why the FBI started arresting underground forces?"

In the restaurant.

John cut a piece of beef and poked it with a fork.

Staring at the tender and juicy beef for a moment, he put it in his mouth and took a bite. After swallowing, he wiped the sauce from the corner of his mouth and said, "It doesn't hurt to tell you, since we're on the same side."

Hearing 'on the same side', Matt's expression was a little strange.

"Wilson Fisk made a deal with the FBI, trading information for some power in prison."

John raised an eyebrow and said, "He's the FBI's golden boy now."

Matt's face sank.

Putting the beef he had only eaten one piece of aside, John took Matt's beef and casually cut it.

As he cut, he said casually, "Fisk is plotting how to get revenge. It's probably not just reporting some colleagues. He should find a way to leave prison and seek an opportunity to retaliate against me."

He said it casually, as if the person being retaliated against wasn't him.

"He won't escape from prison, that would be too foolish." All the beef was cut into bite-sized pieces and placed in front of Matt. John said lightly, "He knows that if he does that, I could kill him at any time, so he must have an identity that can protect himself sufficiently."

Matt fell into thought. "Identity?"

An escaped convict who broke out of prison deserves to die.

And Fisk was sure that John would not let him go, so it wasn't the FBI seeking cooperation with him, but him seeking cooperation with the FBI.

Because only the FBI could give him that identity!

Matt, who had figured it out, was very curious. "You're not stopping him?"

John simply calmly analyzed and completely grasped Fisk's thoughts.

John, who knew everything in advance, remained indifferent.

This was puzzling.

John chuckled softly. "It's only interesting to destroy him after he's made all his efforts."

Fisk would never have dreamed that the identity he desperately sought through 'game rules'...

And the person he was going to deal with was watching this struggling spectacle from outside the 'game rules'.

The scent of enticing meat drifted to his nose, but Matt wasn't in the mood to eat.

He was still thinking about how to deal with Fisk's method of leaving prison.

John reminded him that it would get cold if he didn't eat soon.

Although it wasn't very hot to begin with.

With a heavy heart, he enjoyed a steak at this high-end restaurant.

Matt said goodbye in a hurry, while John came out slowly.

Hell's Kitchen.

Matt transformed into Daredevil; he still needed to figure out how Fisk was getting out.

But this night was destined to be unsettling.

With his enhanced hearing, Matt was even more in his element at night.

He encountered a blue figure; Night Ghost stood on the rooftop with his arms crossed, looking down at Matt.

Matt knew of his existence; in the past, there would have been some conflict with him.

But he wouldn't do that now.

Just as John said, they were on the same side.... Their relationship was still bad, but they wouldn't fight each other upon meeting.

Their philosophies were different, just like Iron Man and Captain America; although they would have disagreements, they wouldn't resort to physical conflict.

Matt arrived at a factory.

This was originally a large illegal goods processing plant, but it was destroyed due to John's actions.

A large number of blind workers were found and repatriated.

The master of this place never showed up from beginning to end, and it is still unknown who was in charge.

Today, however, there was an unusual smell here.

In Matt's ears, he heard voices talking from this place.

"Can you handle it?"

"Don't worry, I can handle it."

"Are you sure?"

"I'm sure!"

Two men were making a deal.

One of them had a buzz cut and was holding a silver briefcase.

When Matt arrived, their deal was nearing its end.

The man with the buzz cut handed the case to the nervous man in the hoodie sitting opposite him.

"This batch of goods is good," the buzz-cut man smiled, chewing gum, "Don't say I don't take care of you."

The man in the hoodie's face showed joy; his hand tightly clutched the briefcase as if afraid someone would snatch it.

The buzz-cut man turned and left, and the man in the hoodie impatiently got up, taking the case in the opposite direction.

Matt thought for a moment and chose not to alert them but instead quietly followed the man in the hoodie.

His tracking didn't require eyes; he could do it just by using his ears.

The man in the hoodie nervously glanced left and right before entering an apartment building.

Matt followed closely, stopping at the apartment door.

"This place is..."

It was too much of a coincidence; it was the same apartment where he had handled the case for the old woman last time.

This place was originally scheduled for forced demolition, but it was put on hold because of Fisk's downfall.

During the New York War, some parts of this place were damaged.

The demolition matter was brought up again; a company wanted to acquire this place for demolition.

Matt had heard Foggy mention it during the day; Foggy had taken this case to practice.

Matt hadn't paid much attention to it, but seeing the man in the hoodie go in, a sudden sense of unease arose in his heart.

Hearing footsteps enter a room in the apartment, Matt found a hidden place to hide downstairs.

His attention was entirely focused on the man in the hoodie.

Returning to the room, the man in the hoodie impatiently opened the case, revealing bottles of oral medication inside.

Staring at this item, madness flowed in his eyes.

Rolling up his sleeve, there was a clear scar on his left arm, looking as if it had been severed there before.

After getting the medicine bottles, the man in the hoodie didn't hesitate.

He opened one and inhaled forcefully without hesitation; the liquid entered his body.

Instantly, his face became contorted.

Orange-red light flowed in his veins, gradually climbing onto his face.

He let out a painful groan, clenching his teeth.

His body temperature gradually rose, and by the time he realized something was wrong, it was too late.

He struggled, screaming, but couldn't suppress this power.

Matt, outside, heard the sound; he could feel the magma-like heat.

That was not something a human could possess.

"No—!"

A roar came from the room.

It aroused the suspicion of the other residents in the apartment.

An old woman opened her door, about to look for the source of the sound.

At the apartment door at the end of the corridor, a terrifying explosion erupted.

The old woman only had time to put her hands up in front of her before the explosion instantly engulfed her.

"Boom!"

The explosion, along with the chain reaction it caused, also affected Matt, who was hiding downstairs.

The blast wave sent Matt flying several meters, rolling on the ground.

The explosion shattered the glass of the apartment building, and fire from the lower floors blocked the escape routes, turning the apartment into a sea of flames.

Matt struggled to his feet; he couldn't see the flames, but he could sense them through the heatwave.

The heat rushing towards him made his face change drastically.

This explosion sent everyone in this apartment into the flames.

And the culprit had already disappeared.
