Chapter 120: I Want to Share a Room With You...
Ling Shuang and Jiang Nannan dropping out of school was actually within Mu En's expectations. Although he felt a bit of regret, given the special status of these two individuals, Mu En had already come to terms with their decision.
But Ning Tian's withdrawal was something he hadn't anticipated.
He had originally intended to instill the glory of Shrek into this young mistress so that Shrek Academy could leverage the power of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect in the future. Why would she drop out now?
"Did you approve the withdrawal procedures?" Mu En asked in a deep voice.
"No. The teacher in charge delayed the process after seeing that it was Ning Tian, saying it required time and that he needed to inform you before making any decisions. But Ning Tian seemed to expect this and said someone from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect would come to follow up. Then she left with Wu Feng."
"It's not easy for us to stop them," the academy executive said with difficulty.
Although few among the senior staff of Shrek truly treated it as just a school, they still presented themselves to the outside world as an academy.
If a student wanted to leave, it was their freedom. They couldn't exactly force anyone to stay.
Besides, Ning Tian's background was far from simple. Although the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect wasn't as powerful as Shrek Academy, provoking them wasn't wise.
Mu En knew the staff couldn't be blamed and simply sighed without adding more.
"Alright, let them go. This matter ends here." Mu En rubbed his forehead, visibly troubled.
Thankfully, this year's class had many outstanding students. Otherwise, losing so many at once would have been a severe blow.
"The reserve team roster still isn't finalized. Of those who left earlier, there are a few with only average talent. Get someone to contact them and invite them to join the team."
"But, Mr. Mu, they quit the team themselves. Even if we invite them back, I'm afraid..." the teacher hesitated, visibly uncomfortable.
Would they really return after leaving on their own?
Mu En, however, was confident.
"They're still children. They made an impulsive decision. They've probably come to regret it."
"By taking the initiative, we give them a reason to preserve their pride. They won't refuse."
"...Understood," the teacher replied. Even though Mu En sounded confident, something about it made him feel uneasy.
Still, due to Mu En's authority, he said nothing more and quietly left.
——
The sun was setting in the west.
In a city near Shrek Academy, located within the Dou Spirit Empire, three figures descended slowly with the aid of flying soul tools.
"It's getting late. Let's find a hotel here and head out tomorrow," said Ling Shuang.
"Mhm, I didn't expect we'd get here so quickly," Jiang Nannan replied with some surprise.
Wang Qiu'er, standing beside them, had just taken off her flying soul tool and was curiously inspecting it.
She had followed them all the way.
After learning that Ling Shuang had dropped out, this Empress Beast instantly lost all interest in remaining at Shrek. Without even completing her withdrawal, she caught up to him.
She also scolded Ling Shuang fiercely for leaving without saying goodbye abandoning her "sister."
At first, Ling Shuang had flatly refused Wang Qiu'er's request to tag along. But then the girl turned around and headed toward the Extreme North.
Left with no choice, Ling Shuang had to take this third wheel along because if she really did go to the Extreme North and something happened, Di Tian would not sit still.
And Ling Shuang didn't want anything happening in the place he had lived for so many years.
This was the first time Jiang Nannan and Wang Qiu'er had used the flying soul tool.
It was crafted by Ling Shuang himself, based on some blueprints he had purchased.
Though he had no formal teacher, years of studying had allowed Ling Shuang to make progress in this field.
While he wasn't skilled enough yet to build the "mecha" he envisioned, making a couple of mid-level flying soul tools was no issue.
If Jiang Nannan and the others hadn't needed time to get used to flying, they probably could have gone even farther.
"Hey, Ling Shuang, do you have anything else fun like this?" Wang Qiu'er sidled up beside him, blinking her big eyes with obvious curiosity.
"No," Ling Shuang answered coldly, reaching out to pinch her little nose. "And who told you to call your brother by name directly?"
Ling Shuang was very displeased with this third wheel tagging along. He had no reason to be nice.
"Tsk, so stingy!" Wang Qiu'er broke free from his grip and ran to Jiang Nannan with her soul tool in hand.
This little Empress Beast had learned to be clever knowing exactly who to lean on to restrain Ling Shuang.
Jiang Nannan, watching them, smiled gently.
At first, she'd thought the two of them felt strange nothing like siblings.
But now, the more she watched them, the more they did feel like it.
Perhaps they had just seemed awkward at first because they were distant relatives who hadn't seen each other in a long time. Now that they'd spent time together, everything felt natural.
The three of them soon arrived at the entrance of a lavishly decorated hotel.
The Dou Spirit Royal Hotel an elite chain operated by the Dou Ling royal family, and the most prestigious in the empire.
"Xiao Shuang..." Jiang Nannan gently tugged at his sleeve.
The ornate building intimidated her, someone accustomed to living simply.
"It's fine." Ling Shuang gently patted her hand. "Improving your quality of life when you can afford to isn't wasteful."
Jiang Nannan wasn't someone who insisted on suffering hardship. Hearing Ling Shuang say this, she nodded.
"Three rooms—" Ling Shuang stepped up to the counter and took out his card, only to be interrupted by Jiang Nannan.
She raised two slender fingers, her face slightly red, voice soft: "Two rooms is fine..."
Under Ling Shuang's surprised gaze, Jiang Nannan lowered her head further, her words faltering.
"Alright, two rooms then." Ling Shuang didn't press. He simply turned and spoke to the receptionist.
After all, the rooms were spacious enough. Two girls wouldn't feel crowded sharing.
He knew from past experience that girls often liked traveling in pairs. Maybe Jiang Nannan was the same.
"Understood." The receptionist processed the request, handed over the key cards and soul-powered room guides. "Please keep your room cards safe."
After heading upstairs, Ling Shuang handed one room card to Jiang Nannan.
She took it, but instead of keeping it, she turned and gave it to Wang Qiu'er.
Then, with a voice so quiet it would've gone unheard if not for everyone being soul masters, she whispered to Ling Shuang:
"I want to share a room with you..."
