Crystal Foster covered her mouth with a light laugh, her eyes fixed on Hazel Morgan. "If telling lies to yourself makes you happier, I don't mind being the subject of your stories. I'm just that nice, willing to be selfless for your sake."
Watching Hazel's face darken visibly, Crystal laughed even more cheerfully. "Besides, Hazel, this isn't the first time you've done something like this. I'm genuinely curious, does deceiving yourself really make you happy?"
"Sylvia Byrne, what do you mean by that? Explain yourself!" Hazel's face twisted with anger. Sylvia was being outrageous, completely disregarding her.
Crystal's expression was innocent, but her voice rose several notches. "Did I say something wrong? Haven't you been gossiping about me? Spreading rumors about my marriage? Isn't that you, Hazel?"
The surrounding women quickly gathered around. Gossip was a natural attraction, especially when it involved family matters.
