LIANA'S POV
The journey to the Lamia pack took six days. Six days to practice being someone else. Someone soft and fragile and unthreatening. Someone who would make the other competitors feel sorry for her instead of seeing her as a threat.
By the time we arrived at the camp, I had my story perfected. Golden Fields was small and peaceful. My father was sick and needed expensive medicine. I was here out of desperation, not ambition. Poor little Liana, just trying to save her dying daddy.
The other girls bought it completely.
Even that first night, when the attacks started and girls began dying around me, they saw exactly what I wanted them to see. Sweet, innocent Liana, too weak to be a threat to anyone.
They didn't see me slip away from the main group when the fighting got intense. They didn't see me find the two girls who'd decided I looked like easy prey.
They'd cornered me behind a tent, thinking they could eliminate the weakest competitor first.
