Chapter 88 - Chapter 88: The Six-Tails

The existence of the Tailed Beasts was well-known across the shinobi world. Even among civilians, tales of these monsters had been passed down through myth and legend for generations.

But to actually witness one in person?

That was a privilege—or a curse—very few ever experienced, even among the most elite shinobi.

And today…

No one in Kirigakure ever imagined they'd see a Tailed Beast, much less one summoned in the very heart of the village—on top of the Mizukage's tower.

BOOM!!!

ROAAAAR!!!

A deafening explosion erupted as a massive shadow surged upward in a blast of white smoke, collapsing the entire Mizukage building beneath its weight.

A guttural shriek tore through the village as the wind exploded outward, flattening nearby structures and hurling stunned villagers across the streets.

From within the smoke, a towering white beast emerged—colossal in size, slug-like in form, but with limbs and a grotesque, mucous-coated body that shimmered with corrosive fluid.

"W-What… what is that thing?!"

"It can't be—"

"It's the Six-Tails! That's the Six-Tails!"

Someone shouted the name, and panic spread like wildfire. The villagers screamed, fleeing in all directions, desperate to escape what felt like the wrath of a god.

Yoru narrowed his eyes at the massive creature now looming over the ruins of the tower.

"The Six-Tails…"

He hadn't expected Gensui to go this far. To summon a Tailed Beast—not a jinchūriki, but the actual physical beast—within the most populated sector of the village?

This wasn't desperation. This was madness.

The Nine-Tails Rampage in the original timeline brought Konoha to its knees. A fully manifested Tailed Beast let loose in a village… the damage would be unimaginable.

"So this is what you've become, old man? Lost completely in your thirst for power."

Yoru exhaled sharply. Behind him, waves of water surged into the air.

"Water Release: Water Colliding Wave!"

Streams of high-pressure water bullets rained toward him. But the moment they reached his proximity, they froze midair, shattering into harmless shards.

"You're still trying to fight me?"

He sighed again. "So much for loyalty. The Third Mizukage's mind has clearly been under control for years… Uchiha Madara's influence runs deeper than I thought."

"Six-Tails, kill him!!" Gensui roared.

The slug-beast let out another horrific screech, rearing back before vomiting a deluge of corrosive acid that poured across the battlefield.

SSSSSSHHHH!!

Anything the acid touched was instantly eaten away. Even skilled shinobi couldn't counter it fast enough.

But then—

CRACKLE.

A freezing storm swept across the air, locking the acid mid-flow in sheets of glittering ice.

The Six-Tails thrashed. The cold—it hated the cold. It loved moisture, humidity. This bitter frost was torture.

And then it began to charge—chakra swirling, growing darker and heavier.

A black orb of concentrated chakra formed before it.

Someone gasped.

"T-That's a Tailed Beast Bomb!"

"Are they insane?! Why would they let this happen in the middle of the village?!"

"That'll wipe out half of Kirigakure if it detonates here!!"

Chaos erupted. Shinobi poured into the plaza—clan leaders, ANBU, jōnin squads—all rallying in disbelief as they stared down the monster.

They weren't afraid of the beast. They were afraid of where it was.

A Tailed Beast Bomb detonating at the village's core?

Extinction.

"DAMN THAT OLD MAN GENSUI!" Mei Terumi shouted, turning to the nearby ANBU. "Don't just stand there! Evacuate civilians—NOW!"

"Yes, ma'am!"

Mei spun toward the crowd. "Everyone else—take the Six-Tails down! That Bomb CANNOT detonate!"

Jutsu flew through the sky in all directions—water, lightning, ice. But none of it seemed to matter. The Six-Tails regenerated from most attacks instantly. And its acidic mucus neutralized nearly everything else.

The Tailed Beast Bomb continued to grow.

Until—

"…Then let it be destroyed."

Yoru slowly raised Hyōrinmaru.

And the temperature plummeted.

The air grew still. Even the Six-Tails hesitated.

"Bankai."

"Daiguren Hyōrinmaru."

"Ryūsenka."

Wings of ice bloomed from Yoru's back. With a surge of speed, he launched forward—right arm transformed into a jagged ice dragon's claw.

The moment he slashed—

BOOM.

The forming Tailed Beast Bomb detonated prematurely.

But Yoru's freezing blade had pierced its core just in time.

The explosion stalled, halted mid-burst.

"Bakudō #81: Dankū—Full perimeter!"

An invisible barrier snapped into place, sealing the Six-Tails and the Bomb within its sphere.

And then—

KRAKOOOM.

Blinding light. Ear-splitting sound. Every shinobi watching instinctively shielded their eyes.

They waited for the searing pain of death.

It never came.

When the light faded and they realized they were still alive, many simply collapsed—overwhelmed with relief.

The blast's heat and shockwave had been completely contained by the barrier.

Inside the barrier, raw power whipped in every direction, shredding the Six-Tails from within. Outside, only cold remained.

"W-We're alive…?"

"We survived…"

"…So cold…"

The survivors, frozen in fear, now shivered in the chill of the aftermath. Everywhere they looked—ice. Snow. Frost coating every surface.

The entire Hidden Mist was buried in a glistening winter.

"So this is Yoru's power…" someone whispered.

Among the crowd, Yuki Setsu stood in awe. No written report could have prepared her for the real thing.

She gripped Yuki Kira's hand tightly—like she was holding onto the future of their entire clan.

"You were right, Kira… Yoru is our hope. He's the jewel of the Yuki Clan."

"Grandmother…"

Kira's eyes sparkled.

The stronger Yoru became, the stronger their clan became. And today, he had proven he wasn't just strong—he was unstoppable.

And then—

"Water Release: Furious Roaring Tornado!"

A sudden blast of jutsu rocketed toward Yoru.

The Third Mizukage.

"Why?! Why is he attacking Lord Yoru?!"

Confusion spread.

The Mizukage unleashed another water dragon, and another. He moved like a machine, relentless and unfeeling.

"That's not right…"

"AO—what's happening?!"

The Byakugan wielder squinted, face grave. "There's foreign chakra in his brain. Something powerful… invasive."

"A Genjutsu?"

"Strong enough to enslave a Kage?"

"It can't be…"

Before panic could spread, Yoru vanished—and reappeared behind the Mizukage.

THWACK.

A single strike to the neck. The Third collapsed, unconscious.

Yoru turned to Yagura, who stood frozen nearby.

"Kill me…" Yagura said bitterly. "Just get it over with."

But instead of death, something soft hit his chest.

The Mizukage.

Yoru dropped the man into Yagura's arms.

"You…"

Yoru turned his gaze toward the true enemy—Gensui.

"You bastard—!"

CRACK.

With one sweep of icy chakra, Gensui was frozen solid—his final words cut short, his life extinguished.

[Ding! Eliminated: Jōnin – Reward: 2,000 points.]

[Ding! Target "Gensui" completed – Mission complete.]

The system chimed in his mind.

Yoru turned to the beast—the Six-Tails, still stunned from its own explosion.

[Target Detected: Bijū – Saiken (Six-Tails)]

[Side Quest Activated:]

・Capture/Control/Absorb the Six-Tails — Reward: 100,000 points

・Kill the Six-Tails — Reward: 500,000 points

Same reward as the Nine-Tails.

"Looks like it's more profitable to kill you outright and let you respawn in the wild."

ROOOOOAAAAR!!!

The Six-Tails let out a furious howl, enraged. Its acidic slime burst toward Yoru.

But the attack froze midair.

"Thousand-Year Ice Prison."

Yoru brought Hyōrinmaru down.

Massive walls of enchanted ice formed instantly around the Six-Tails, trapping it inside. Snowflakes fell from the sky, each one like a tiny seal.

The beast roared, thrashing wildly.

Its immense strength cracked ice walls—but for every shattered panel, a new one formed, thicker than before.

Snow fell heavier. The temperature dropped further.

Saiken panicked.

Its acid slime had no effect—every drop froze before touching anything.

It tried to form a second Tailed Beast Bomb—but its memory of the first stopped it cold.

It looked up at Yoru, and for the first time, the Tailed Beast—the walking natural disaster—felt something new.

Fear.

The snowflakes swirled, blooming like a field of white flowers.

They engulfed the beast completely.

And in that moment, the Six-Tails died.
