Chapter 14 - Chapter 013

Chapter 14: Resurrection!

The sound of gunshots faded away.

Zhang San and Luo Wu collapsed to the ground, spitting out mouthfuls of fresh blood.

"Puff!"

"You! You have accomplices!"

From the woods behind, Wang Qian and Wang Wan emerged, carrying their still-smoking hunting rifles.

"These two cowards dared to try and rob someone?"

"Xiao Feng, it's a good thing you noticed early, otherwise these two pieces of trash might have actually succeeded."

Cheng Shaofeng smiled as he picked up the wolf fang club. "Brother Qian and Brother Wan's marksmanship is still as accurate as ever. Thanks for this! I'll treat you guys to a meal another day!"

Wang Qian waved his hand. "No need to be polite. You've already paid us for shooting. These two aren't much of a threat now. If they're not sent back for treatment, they'll likely be done for by tonight."

Wang Wan advised, "Xiao Feng, this is your business so I shouldn't interfere, but as an experienced hunter, let me tell you - never let an injured mutant wolf return to its pack, or you'll become the pack's prey."

"I understand, Brother Wan."

The two hunters walked off with their guns, never even glancing at the cart of goods.

In this world, Cheng Shaofeng's parents were schemed against in a deal. Old Man Yu, Wang Qian's father, was present at the time and escaped under the cover of Cheng Shaofeng's parents, who ultimately died.

But because the other party was too powerful, Old Man Yu never let his family seek revenge and never told Cheng Shaofeng who was responsible, becoming a knot in the original owner's heart.

After that incident, as the family matriarch, Madam Wang always took good care of Cheng Shaofeng.

Wang Qian and Wang Wan were two people Cheng Shaofeng could trust in the base.

As for why the two appeared here, that goes back to 4 hours ago.

After exiting the shed, Cheng Shaofeng suddenly thought of a problem.

"No, that's not right!"

"This minor poison damage has no effect on me because I'm wearing equipment, but the life recovery speed of ordinary people is probably only around 0.5. This 1 point of damage exceeds the human body's recovery speed, so they will definitely gradually weaken from the loss of health, and may even die!"

"This can't be an environmental issue. Although the town is a bit dark and damp, the residents here aren't too affected. Someone must have poisoned me!"

After figuring this out, Cheng Shaofeng calmly continued buying the two-wheeled cart, then found that fresh flower in the corner under his bed after returning.

Next, he went about his normal shopping, but when trading with Wang Qian and the other, he gave an extra 20 dollars and asked them to help tail him and find the person who wanted to harm him, shooting if necessary.

Thus, when Zhang San and Luo Wu revealed their intent to attack, the two hunters decisively opened fire.

Cheng Shaofeng squatted down and looked at the two men spitting up blood, sighing.

"If I put down my things and let you go, I could spare your lives now."

"Ugh! Cough cough! Spare me... I beg you to spare me... I was wrong..."

"Puff cough cough puff... Don't kill me... It was Zhang San's idea, kill him and I'll be your slave..."

"You! You!"

Ignoring the two struggling and pleading, Cheng Shaofeng picked up the wolf fang club and used the wooden end to knock them unconscious, hoisting them onto the small cart.

He continued pulling the 500+ pound cart back towards Disaster Base.

Behind him in the mountain woods, a shadowy figure flashed by.

"Phew~"

"Finally here!"

This trip took a full 5 hours. By the time he reached Disaster Base, it was nearly dark.

The main reason was that the safe route he chose was a bit roundabout and he walked slowly while pulling the cart.

Lifting his two sore arms, he pushed the corpses of the 3 prey into the raw material compartment of the [Clone Generation Pod] and placed the electronic components into the mechanical compartment before selecting start.

Buzz!

The machine began operating.

Zero: "Master, your total biological material is 3.5 portions and electronic components are 5 portions. Adding 1.5 more portions of biological material will allow the generation of 5 clones. You can summon two more souls to assist you in your work."

"1.5 portions of biological material..."

Cheng Shaofeng's gaze swept over the two unconscious despicable scavengers, his eyes shifting slightly.

After a while... his fists clenched.

"You haven't given me any reason to spare you..."

Steeling his heart and closing his eyes, he hoisted them one by one and tossed them into the [Clone Generation Pod].

Buzz!

No gory scene appeared behind him as the quantum beam instantly decomposed the organisms, reorganizing them into a special form stored within the machine.

This greatly reduced the nausea Cheng Shaofeng felt.

But it still took him quite a while to calm himself.

He kept his mouth shut tight, not childishly shouting "I killed people, I'm no longer clean, boo hoo hoo~"

Because he knew... this was the post-apocalyptic wasteland, no place for a powerless bleeding heart.

Zero: "Notice: The [Clone Generation Pod] has stored enough energy for 5 complete clones. Generate clones?"

Cheng Shaofeng thought for a moment and temporarily gave up on the idea of summoning new players.

"Thin Dog and the others have pretty good overall gaming qualities and I've instilled my perspective in them, so they're fairly reliable... The base doesn't have many supplies right now and the beans aren't enough to support too many clones. Let them come online and get some materials first."

Currently, his Disaster Base lacked everything. Summoning players might not even be sustainable.

Night wasn't suitable for player activity as they could easily perish.

So Cheng Shaofeng planned to wait until the next morning to begin summoning.

Using the quantum surfing function, he went on the forum to schedule login times for the three.

Cheng Shaofeng lit a fire in the small cave, ate some boiled beans, randomly pulled a few tree branches and lay down.

The soreness in his body surged up and he quickly fell asleep.

That night.

An eerie wind blew through Salt Well Town, causing the door of the shed Cheng Shaofeng previously lived in to creak.

Faintly, the tragic screams of a woman drifted through the air.

Early the next morning at the break of dawn.

The clone bodies of Thin Dog, Ghost Face Fox, and Lin Tang were already lying outside the clone pod.

Cheng Shaofeng asked, "Zero, how did you make the players look the same as before?"

Zero: "In response, Master, the clones produced by the nanobase have backup data stored in the base, so I can retrieve the data to perfectly replicate them."

"Then what if their bodies become stronger in this world? You said there's a substance called crystal power that humans can use to enhance themselves. If they strengthen themselves in the future and then die, will everything have to start from zero again?"

Zero: "Master, that's not the case. Each clone body contains electronic equipment that records their physical state. As long as they make contact with you to back up the data to the base's main database, the next resurrection will be able to perfectly replicate their backed up physical state. However, the stronger their physique and energy becomes, the more energy it will consume to resurrect their clone."

"Oh, so it's like the conservation of energy? For example, last night it took 0.18% of my power to resurrect the 3 of them. So if they get stronger, in the future it might take 1.8% or even 18% of the power, right?"

Zero: "Yes Master, you are so smart! Zero feels proud to have a master like you!"

Cheng Shaofeng: "...Can you not be so cringey."

Through Zero's explanation, Cheng Shaofeng generally understood the resurrection logic of the clones.

"Then the objectives are very clear. Food, biological materials, electronic components, energy, building a shelter - those are our main tasks from before!"

"Come online, my players!"

"Today is another hopeful day!"

On Earth.

At 6 PM, the three who had been notified by the sentinel that they could log in had long put on their helmets.

As the red exclamation mark in front of their eyes turned green.

The world before the three shattered like a mirror.

In absolute darkness, the five senses of the three slowly reassembled.

"Hoo!"

Thin Dog breathed in the faint scent of sulfur in the air, tears streaming down his face.

"I, African Thin Dog, have returned again!"

"I, Lin Tang, will embark on a great slaughter once more!"

"Heh~ Your disreputable but interesting words, my respected Lord. I am Ghost Face Fox, your most loyal soldier. Is there anything you need me to do?"

While the other two were still immersed in the joy of entering the game, Ghost Face Fox had already knelt on one knee, loyally inquiring of the Lord.
