Chapter 29 - Lucky Escape

The wind radiant beast continued raining wind slashes, and Mike was left open in the face of the magical beast. He rolled like a spy from a movie, grabbed his arm, and jumped out of what remained of the prison. He fixed his arm into the wound as he fell, and just inches away from the ground, he could feel his tendrils of flesh joining his detached arm. He was merely a few meters from crashing into bushes and the ground when he conjured up a gentle whirl of wind around his feet and landed gently in the midst of tall trees.

It was not more than two seconds when a spurt of fire came at him from behind. He sidestepped to the left, increasing the speed of his movement with wind behind his back, and then he turned to the attacker: a dwarf that he was certain had seen him days before.

Another fire ball shot at Mike and he responded with a wind blast in kind. The attacks raged and stilled in the air as the fighters fueled them. Mike caught sight of the wind radiant beast overhead. The beast swiped its right arm releasing a wide wind slash down at Mike.

He could not block it nor could he stop it. He had to move away. He jumped to the right and forward, rolling on the ground, and coming on his feet almost instantly. The wind attack struck and he felt the intensity unleashed behind him.

A wide gash went across the ground behind him, and a couple of trees fell. He even had to evade one.

'I have to run.'

He turned opposite of where his attackers stood intending on escaping when a tall wall hundreds of meters wide suddenly came up in his face. It erupted so seamlessly and swiftly from the ground that he almost crashed on it, merely detering the prospect by brushing himself to the side with wind.

However, he landed terribly and fell flat on the ground. Sensing radiance beneath him in the soil, he instantly blasted himself up. The instant he did, massive pike structures of earth tore from the ground. Any second later and he would have been skewered.

Two radiant beasts, and two fire elementalist dwarves. Unlike him, they were masters of their craft. He might have a greater amount of radiance, and his haxed chains, but he was greatly lacking in experience and skill.

Speaking of the chains, where were they?

'I need you all now.' Mike thought desperately within himself. He could not hope for survival without them, he would not have survived this long without them.

"Oh fuck."

The dwarves had struck out their arms and from them burst multiple torrents of flames that snaked in all directions and yet led up to him.

His mind was frozen, he did not know what to do, no crude spell he had learnt so far would shield him against this. He swallowed, and merely looked at the instrument of his impending doom.

Then something happened. Mike's radiant aura flared in response to the chains that now jutted from him, and in front of him was Araes, and she was as large as she had originally been.

She held out her large wings apart and then flapped them forward and powerful waves of wind burst from them. The flames were blown off, and so were the trees that were in the face of the attack. The dwarves were flung black by the overwhelming force. XelanaTon created a thick earth orb over himself for protection, preventing him from meeting the same fate as the dwarves.

Araes' friend, the radiant beast had been stupefied by its friend's sudden appearance that it too was caught in the wave of the attack and it was blown back, the wind blasts causing tears across its body.

XelanaTon sprang into action once the coast was clear.

"You will not escape!" He said sternly and the ground beneath Mike boiled, and lava sprang out. The wave of molten rock had almost seared him, but once again, his chains came to his rescue, springing him forward and causing him to arc clumsily in the air as in a poorly executed front flip.

The pressure generated by the sudden eruption displaced him however, blasting him forward and causing him to land terribly on the ground. He heard a few cracks and he was certain he broke a number of ribs with that fall.

The lava wave streamed in the air like a dancing dragon and came down at Mike.

Araes once again appeared creating a massive fast-spinning ball of wind that dispelled the lava from them. Mike could feel the massive chunks of radiance leaving him with that move. He had to steel himself so as not to fall with the dizziness that lurched at him.

A gaping split went through the descending lava as a powerful stream of wind went through it, the wave swept about the descending lava, cooling it almost instantly and with a twist of Mike's right hand, the two columns of black rocks were hurled right at XelanaTon.

An earthen wall came over the radiant beast judge and the rocks crumbled to smithereens.

'Get me out of here.' Mike instructed Araes as intently as possible. The radiant beast threw both its wings up and then spun, generating a tornado. Mike felt its feathery grip on his body in the cloudy chaos and before he knew it, he was jetted from the center of the vortex in the arms of his captured radiant beast.

He could see nothing but the clouds, the ocean and the vegetation below, XelanaTon and his goons shrunken out of sight.

XelanaTon roared in frustration, the ground rumbled and several pockets of lava erupted. He was red with rage. Two dwarven flame throwers, a skillful radiant beast and him, and yet, it escaped, the sinful creature that had killed many of his friends.

"I will not stand for this!" He screamed, his voice echoing through the forest.

Mike may have escaped but one more thing was clear, it was not the last of XelanaTon.
