[All] Jeojolryeoyo: ?
[All] Jeojolryeoyo: What are you doing? lol
I pretended to be flustered and typed in the chat while opening my inventory window. Then I chugged down all the potions I had been saving: increased magic attack potion, casting speed potion, health regen potion, and mana boost potion.
I usually didn't get a chance to use them during raids because Cotton Candy Fox always provided buffs. So this is how I finally get to use them.
[All] Ganbok: What the fuck, bitch lol
[All] Jeojolryeoyo: Wow
It was a 2-on-1, but my opponents were both unpromoted, max-level normies like me, so it was still very doable.
Judging by the weapon, it looked like a fellow Lu Mage and a Spearmaster. So I'd have to deal with both a ranged and a melee fighter at the same time.
I quickly recalled the skill list for both Mage and Spearmaster. Usually, you have about 6 to 7 attack skills before class advancement.
If I could stop the Lu Mage from using Ice Spear — a 5-second immobilization skill — that'd be enough. Sure, I'd limit my own skill use too, but it couldn't be helped.
When facing both ranged and melee in a fight, the rule of thumb in most games is to always kill the ranged one first.
I activated a shield that reduces stagger time and melee damage, deciding to avoid magic attacks altogether. Right after that, a Spearmaster skill came flying at me.
Screeech! With that sharp sound, I used an evasive skill. That move, which involves hurling a spear from afar, leaves a mark that allows the Spearmaster to dash in — it was one of those untargeted skills you must not get hit by.
As expected, the Lu Mage was charging Ice Spear behind the Spearmaster. How careless.
The moment my dodge skill ended, I began charging Chain Lightning — a basic skill that stuns for 1 second and deals damage.
The 1-second stun and weak damage made it pretty useless for grinding. But with all the buff potions I had taken and the opponent being a fragile mage, it was more than enough.
Thanks to the casting speed buff, I finished charging in about 0.3 seconds and fired Chain Lightning at the Lu Mage.
[All] aoko1: ?
Their charging Ice Spear was suddenly interrupted, and they lost 15% of their health. Flustered, they typed in the chat. Seeing the damage for myself, I smiled.
The damage was much better than I expected. Probably because I had an attack buff on, and their armor was weak.
The Spearmaster, now much more frantic, started swinging their spear wildly. The attack pattern was obvious, so I dodged all but two targeted skills — even those were barely harmful thanks to my shield.
I dodged and controlled my character well while repeatedly blasting the Lu Mage with Chain Lightning.
Because my casting speed was faster than the stun recovery, they were basically in an infinite stun lock. They couldn't even move, let alone cast.
[All] aoko1: Ah
[All] aoko1: Fuck
After getting hit by Chain Lightning nine times in a row, the Mage died without getting a single attack off. With the ranged attacker gone, the situation became much easier.
Still, I was squishy too, so if the Spearmaster got too close, I could be one-shot. Staying alert, I switched to a fire magic skill — Flamer.
Fwoosh — accompanied by a roaring flame sound, a diamond-shaped fire spread around my character. Like a flamethrower, it was one of the best AoE skills against melee attackers.
The Spearmaster rushed in but stumbled from the constant stagger and damage-over-time effect of Flamer, their health quickly draining.
There was no need for anything else. As long as I kept charging and casting Flamer, the Spearmaster couldn't get close. They seemed to realize that too and started retreating in a panic once their HP dropped to around 30%.
[All] Jeojolryeoyo: lolol
You think I'll let you go, you bastard? I typed mockingly and fired Chain Lightning again — the same skill I used to kill the Mage.
Sure, it did less damage than it did to the Mage, but they were stunned and couldn't run, so I could just keep casting like before.
Thud! With the final blow, the Spearmaster collapsed next to the Mage. Having won a 2-on-1, I felt completely refreshed and leisurely picked up the items on the ground.
In field PvP, there's a chance you drop equipped items when you die. The Lu Mage dropped their staff, and the Spearmaster dropped a bracelet with a movement speed boost.
[All] Jeojolryeoyo: Instead of talking shit behind people's backs
[All] Jeojolryeoyo: Maybe work on your skills lol
Compared to my fight with Yuchae, this was laughably easy. Still, it helped relieve some stress, so whatever.
I'll just keep the items. My own staff and bracelet were better anyway, but I don't see any reason to give them back after what they pulled.
"Guess I'll skip the extra quest and go do something else."
I came out to grind with good intentions, only to run into jerks like this — totally killed the mood.
Just as I was about to use a return scroll to head back to Veritas City, a terrible feeling washed over me.
"...!"
The screen flashed red with a hit marker just as I pressed my dodge skill. I rolled frantically with only 30% HP left and rotated the camera to the right.
[All] Sangdanghan: Oh
[All] Sangdanghan: You dodged that?
Dozens of swords rained from the sky — a Warlord's ultimate skill. A bleeding debuff appeared next to my health bar, and my recovery slowed to a crawl.
[All] Jeojolryeoyo: ?
On the other side stood a pure white character from head to toe. The dual swords they held gleamed golden — clearly +9 enhanced weapons.
The Guild Master of . No wonder one of them had been silent — probably whining in guild chat.
"The Guild Master came over for this?"
I was so dumbfounded, my head hurt. Shit, this one was even worse than Yuchae.
[All] Sangdanghan: lol hey
He greeted me like we were old friends — it was incredibly annoying.
[All] Jeojolryeoyo: What are you doing?
[All] Sangdanghan: What else?
[All] Sangdanghan: Payback.
As soon as that message appeared, a bright blue object came flying and hit me square on. My dodge skill was still on cooldown, and no amount of movement could avoid it — must've been a locked-on skill.
My remaining HP dropped sharply in an instant, and the screen turned gray. Ugh—my character let out a final groan and collapsed to the ground. Of all the gear I could've dropped, it had to be my staff.
[All] Sangdanghan: LOLLL gg
[All] Ganbok: Okay, stop messing around.
[All] Ganbok: Hurry up and revive me, dude —_—;
Sangdanghan completely ignored his fellow guildmate's pleas and casually walked over to me, picking up my staff.
[All] Sangdanghan: Wait, what?
[All] Sangdanghan: I thought it was trash.
[All] Sangdanghan: Luck +2? Damn, that's expensive gear.
'...Expensive?'
I did search it on the auction house when I first got it… Did I search it wrong somehow?
[All] Sangdanghan: Should've joined the guild when we asked you to, huh?
[All] Sangdanghan: Look at you now. Embarrassing.
[All] Sangdanghan: I'm keeping this staff, okay?
"…Hah…"
[All] Sangdanghan: Unless…
[All] Sangdanghan: You wanna join the guild now?
[All] Sangdanghan: I'll give your staff back, lol
'Why the hell do these assholes keep going on about their guild…?'
My neck ached from the rising heat of frustration. I massaged it a few times with my hand and typed into chat with an irritated laugh.
[All] Jeojolryeoyo: Go fuck yourself, you piece of shit.
Staying dead any longer would just mean listening to more of this bullshit, so I clicked Revive at Central City despite the penalty to gold and experience.
My character respawned in the middle of the bustling main plaza, with only half HP—and, unlike usual, empty hands. No staff. That bitter defeat made my insides boil with rage.
I shot up from my seat and grabbed a cold bottle of water from the fridge, chugging the whole 500mL in one go. After cooling off, I returned to the computer and stopped the recording.
Trying to suppress the fury still surging inside, I calmly began processing the situation. So, what do I need to do now…?
'Obviously, I'm getting my staff back. Fuckers.'
Who the hell do these bastards think they are, taking someone else's weapon? And an expensive one, no less. I wouldn't feel better until I got my staff back—and took down that Favor guild master while I was at it.
[Yoo Ji-han]: Hey
[Yoo Ji-han]: What does "Luck +2" mean?
[Yoo Ji-han]: Explain it to me
First, I sent a private message to Kim Dae-seok with my question, then returned to the Xenoris screen and opened my friends list. My hands hesitated for a second above the keyboard… but then moved without hesitation.
Yu Chae
I typed "Yu Chae" into the add friend window, and his name popped up in the list. About a minute later, a notification appeared in the bottom-right corner saying he had logged in—and then came the frantic messages.
[Yu Chae]: Hyung?
[Yu Chae]: Is that really you?
[Yu Chae]: Did you just send me a friend request?
Sigh…
Seeing him this excited over something as simple as a friend request made me sigh deeply. I hadn't said anything after adding him, so he messaged me again.
[Yu Chae]: What's going on?
[Yu Chae]: Is something wrong?
Well, he was at least good at picking up on things. Rubbing my sore eyes, I finally typed a reply.
[Jeojolryeoyo]: Hey
[Jeojolryeoyo]: I'm thinking of using you for something.
