But still, I kept hearing her voice in my head. Cool. Unshaken. Like she wasn't calling her boss—but someone she had personal access to.
I hated how it got to me. I wasn't the girl who got jealous. Not anymore. I was stronger now. Smarter.
Wasn't I?
I stared out the window, watching the city blink back at me.
There were bigger problems to worry about—Clarissa, Derick, the imposter still circling somewhere in the dark.
I know that I somehow challenged Clarissa and Derick, but I think they won't just give up.
And the imposter has just been mute for a while. I don't know if I should be relaxed or be alert. Don't know his next move.
But it's funny how it's never the biggest threat that keeps you up at night.
It's the smallest one.
The one that whispers instead of shouts.
I turned away from the glass and walked slowly back to the room. Julian was still asleep, one arm stretched toward where I'd been.
I climbed in beside him and lay still, my back to his chest.
