Chapter 6 - Just Another Day

The next day was uneventful. Leon went to class, casually taking note of how the other players went about their days. Not exactly stalking, but if he saw someone he remembered from yesterday, he'd observe them for just a little longer than was probably socially acceptable. Terrence seemed normal, as did Mateo when the two met. Ms. Collins actually looked pretty messed up. She looked more tired than usual as she trapsed through the schools beige hallways, almost tripping over one of the other students. And after that was Alison, who sat on the stairways before class started, her eyes shifting to any potential opponents she'd be facing later. If she saw someone of note, she'd quickly scribble something into her infamous notebook. Blair, the goth girl stood next to her, looking more paranoid. Alison stood up, adjusting her purple jeans, pink sweater with a heart on it, and her ponytail that was dyed bright pink before heading to her first class, with Blair following.

Tedros sat through math, trying not to tap his pen against the desk and give Mr. Shankly another reason to throw a hissyfit. He had his homework done this time, even if it was incredibly half assed. It wasn't like he'd need whatever the hell was on the board in two years. If the channel didn't work out, then he probably knew enough about video editing to get a job there. He needed a silent way to stimulate himself, so he rubbed his right index finger against the desk. After a few seconds, he noticed a white dot on the desk. Tiny, but faintly glowing. He licked his finger in an attempt to get rid off it. But when he lifted his finger, a second dot was there. He silently glanced around the classroom to see if anyone had noticed whatever's in front of him.

"Tedros!" Mr. Shankly yelled, his thick glasses almost hitting Tedros forehead. "Is this class not stimulating enough for you?"

"It's fine!" Tedros yelled back. "I just…thought I saw a cat in the windowsill!"

"Well, have fun living with that cat on the streets if you don't fix your marks up!"

Thoughts filled Tedros head. Thoughts that weren't getting let out, because if he did he'd get another detention, and straight after school was the theory discussion with MasterSpacePiece45. He needed his theory that an alien elder had Jesus inspired powers to be known to the masses, dammit! Instead, he pressed his hand down on the desk. He was gonna focus on whatever differential equations were and get through the day.

But the second he did, a pillar erupted from the table. The pillar was a head taller than him sitting, pure glowing white. When he looked down, he noticed the three dots formed the base, which connected in the centre.

"Tedros!" Mr. Shankly yelled again, planting his feet on the ground, most likely to ensure he wouldn't run up and kick a child in the head. "If you want to do magic tricks, then do it in the principal's office!"

Tedros got up and left the room, but the pillar was still there. He put his hands on it until he was able to…uproot it from it's perch, after putting in a little effort. The pillar wasn't going away, so he looked out below and quickly tossed it from the second story window before quickly leaving the room.

Tedros sat outside the office, awaiting his punishment. A goth girl was sat next to him, dejected while holding a black book in her hand. And Tedros remembered her outside the school yesterday. Her hair was jet black and short. And she wore a shirt with some kind of band logo on it alongside her navy skirt that was torn at the end, as well as blue teardrop shaped earrings.

"You activate your powers by accident too?" She asked without looking.

"You remember me?"

"Alison's already made notes on everyone." She replied. "Ranked the eighteen remaining players by perceived threat levels."

"Where am I?"

"If I remember right, thirteen"

"That low?"

"You didn't show your powers, you aren't in a gang of some kind, and you aren't athletic. Sorry you aren't important enough for the upper rankings."

"I mean, I got powers now." Tedros replied with a confident head tilt. "Check this out."

He pressed his finger in three different points in the wall next to him, close together just in case, and just like in maths, a pillar emerged from the wall.

"Seems cool." She nodded. She opened up her sketchbook and began scribbling on it. After a few seconds, she made a pulling motion with her hand, and a little stickman popped out. It wandered around the page for a little, and she put it on her hand to walk around. She then put it back on the page before slapping it, and the drawing went back to the page like nothing happened.

"Woah." Tedros said.

"Yeah." She said.

"Blair?" A voice from inside called out.

"That's me, see you later."

The office was pretty messy. The middle aged woman in front of her was smiling happily. Behind her was several pictures of her achievements. Behind Blair was several random knick knacks she either collected or confiscated over the years, all haphazardly dumped together in the corner, just out of the way of the door to avoid an injured student. Or more likely a lawsuit involving an injured student.

"So, your geography teacher told me you accidentally let a bird loose in the classroom." She said calmly, gazing directly into her eyes. The eyes felt cold, yet Blair felt her look burning into her skull.

"I mean, not like I meant to. I was doodling in the back of my notebook and then it just kind of happened, you know?"

"Oh, Blair. You don't need to explain. Yesterday, the most charming man came to my house to explain what's happening. You all got powers and have to fight for your lives, is that right?"

"Yeah." Blair said through narrowed eyes. The casual tone she gave off as she said that seemed more terrifying than any gods she was supposed to be fighting.

"And he even helped clean up Darren's body. Such a gentleman. Anyway, you and Tedros are off the hook. Just try harder to pay attention next time, okay?"

Blair left the room as next class was about to start. She sat through English, trying to pay attention. But she couldn't. Tomorrow was the first event. And Alison was dead set on going. She claimed she needed to scope anyone out, and that thanks to her powers, she'd survive. Blair wanted to go with her, just in case she needed backup against whatever was happening.

Only thing left to do was try not to die.
