The heated air of the tavern crackled with tension as Loki's playful smirk sent a wave of unease through Hestia. Behind the red-haired goddess stood her Familia—among them, the silent and stoic Ais Wallenstein, whose golden gaze met Ethan's .
Ais tilted her head, curious. "You're really interesting…"
Before Ethan could respond, a sudden gust blew open the tavern door. A group of armored figures stepped in, bearing the distinct insignia of the Guild's Enforcers. The room fell quiet.
"By order of the Guild," the leading Enforcer announced, his voice clipped and cold, "we've received reports of an unregistered Level 2 promotion conducted without approval."
Hestia's heart dropped. "W-What?! That's nonsense! Ethan followed all protocols—!"
Ethan instinctively stepped in front of her, shielding her. "I registered everything. Check with Royman at the Guild."
The Enforcer's eyes narrowed. "And yet, a formal complaint has been filed. We are here to verify it firsthand."
Loki chuckled from the side, arms crossed. "Tsk tsk, Hestia. You sure you're not pushing your cute little adventurer a bit too hard?"
"Shut it, you stick-bug!!" Hestia hissed, fire blazing in her eyes. "You sent them, didn't you?!"
The Enforcer didn't flinch. "Any interference will be considered obstruction of Guild investigation."
Hestia stepped between Ethan and the Enforcers, arms outstretched. "You're not taking him without cause! I swear on my name, he did nothing wrong!"
Ethan's fists clenched at his sides. He felt the weight of the room—watchful eyes, twitching fingers, tension thick as steel. His instincts screamed at him to act, to protect, but years of watching this world in silence taught him—Guild Enforcers weren't to be taken lightly.
Ais's voice broke the moment.
"If he did nothing wrong… why not let the Guild confirm it?"
Ethan turned toward her. Her tone wasn't cold. Just... honest. Observant. She wasn't siding against him, just watching, waiting for his next move.
But the question remained—who filed the complaint? And why?
The Enforcer raised a communication crystal to his lips. "Confirming with Royman. Stand by."
Hestia's lips trembled. "Ethan…"
"I'm not scared," he whispered to her. "We did nothing wrong."
A long pause followed. Everyone in the tavern held their breath.
Then, the crystal glowed, and a calm voice echoed: "This is Royman. Confirming Hestia Familia's Level 2 registration for Adventurer Ethan. All documents are legitimate."
A deep sigh of relief escaped the tavern.
The Enforcer gave a respectful nod. "Apologies. Protocol required confirmation. Enjoy your evening."
As the Enforcers exited, Loki raised an eyebrow. "You lucked out, shorty."
Hestia's voice was still shaking. "Get bent, tomato snake."
But Ethan wasn't laughing. His mind was sharp. Focused.
Someone had filed a false report.
Someone was watching him.
The cliffhanger snapped into place as Ais took a small step forward, her eyes still fixed on Ethan.
"I want to spar with you sometime."
The room froze again. Even Loki blinked.
And Hestia?
She screamed, "WHAT?!" so loudly that glasses shattered.
