"Is he really playing with her feelings"
It was the end—or at least, I thought it was.
A few days had passed since everything went silent between us. I tried not to think about him, tried to distract myself with everything—classes, conversations, late-night series, and endless scrolling through reels on Instagram. Life felt a bit hollow, but I was managing… or pretending to.
One evening, I was lying on my bed, phone in hand, just randomly swiping through reels when I noticed something unusual. A green circle appeared around his profile—his story was set to "Close Friends."
My heart skipped. Why would I be in his close friends?
I hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to open it. My curiosity took over.
And there it was—a short clip, barely ten seconds. A girl, beautiful and glowing, was lip-syncing to a trending romantic audio. Her expression was playful, her eyes full of something that felt... personal.
I froze. For a second, everything stopped. I didn't even blink.
Questions started racing in my mind. Who is she? Why would he share this with close friends? What does this even mean?
I instantly shared it with my best friend, heart pounding as I waited for her reply. She tried to comfort me. "Maybe she's just his cousin, or a close friend. Or even a sister. Don't jump to conclusions."
I wanted to believe that. I really did. I clung to that thought all night, telling myself there was nothing to worry about.
But fate had other plans.
The very next morning, while scrolling through Instagram during breakfast, I saw his latest note—just above the DMs. He had tagged her. The same girl. This time, there was no guessing.
A heart emoji. A dreamy love song playing softly in the background—one of those lovebird anthems everyone uses when they're in love.
No caption. Just her username and that heart.
And that was it. I couldn't breathe.
My chest tightened. It felt like someone had knocked the wind out of me. My vision blurred, and for a split second, everything around me turned dark and quiet. I stared at the screen, unable to move, unable to think straight.
It wasn't just jealousy. It wasn't just heartbreak.
It was the realization—the confirmation—that he had moved on.
So easily. So silently.
And I was still here, stuck between our old memories and this painful present, watching everything unfold through a screen I wished I hadn't opened.
