Chapter 31 - Kael’s Sacrifice

The rogue camp was a pit of chaos as I staggered back at dawn, my hand pulsing with pain from Isolde's blood oath. The air was heavy with the smell of woodsmoke and sweat, with wolves racing amongst the tents, their voices hard with importance. Kael was in the thick of things, his shoulders wide beneath his armor, his storm-gray eyes drilling through me the moment I emerged from among the trees. The mate bond roared, a wave of his anger and panic crashing into me, nearly taking my breath away. His hair was wild, his face even paler than usual, and I knew through our bond that he'd experienced every second of my stupid bargain with Isolde.
