Chapter 66 - Chapter 066: The Feeling of a Stopped Heartbeat

Just like Mr. Lu Xun once said, the fewer the words, the bigger the matter. (TL/N: Lu Xun = A leading figure of modern Chinese literature)

For someone like Akainu, who has already become the Fleet Admiral of the Marines, no other titles or descriptions are necessary—just those four words alone are enough to show his status and power!

Anyone who can reach the position of Fleet Admiral is definitely not ordinary!

So, Raymond wasn't worried at all that Akainu's strength wouldn't live up to a Silver-tier sub-personality. In fact, from his point of view, Akainu was much stronger than Tao Pai Pai.

Especially in terms of vitality—ten Tao Pai Pais together still wouldn't compare to one Akainu.

In a world without Haki, Logia users are pretty much half-immortal. They may not be completely unkillable, but regular physical attacks definitely can't hurt them.

Of course, this world's technology is much more advanced than that of the One Piece world.

Trying to coast by just relying on Logia powers wouldn't be realistic.

But at the very least, normal weapons were no longer a threat. Even missile strikes wouldn't matter. Just from this alone, Raymond's survivability had taken a big step up thanks to Akainu's sub-personality.

What Raymond was truly concerned about, though, was whether Akainu's personality would be as rigid and stubborn as in the original.

His previous three sub-personalities—even the strongest one, Tao Pai Pai—weren't particularly headstrong. Thanks to his absolute switching authority, Raymond had no trouble keeping them under control.

Plus, while the sub-personalities retained the memories and abilities of their originals, they fundamentally considered themselves to be one with Raymond. So they wouldn't intentionally work against him.

But habits and behavior were another story.

And Akainu's personality was nothing like the others.

He was extremely stubborn. Once he believed in something, no one could change his mind—not even his superiors.

He didn't care about others' opinions or even right or wrong. Once he decided something, that was it.

Raymond wasn't worried Akainu would harm him. But he couldn't be sure Akainu would always act exactly as he wanted.

Based on what he knew, if they ever disagreed, even threatening to switch him out might not work on Akainu.

If that happened, this Silver-tier sub-personality might end up being less useful than Tao Pai Pai.

"Hopefully I'm just overthinking it," Raymond muttered, shaking his head and putting the thought aside for now.

It was all speculation anyway.

Maybe it would happen, maybe it wouldn't. No one could say for sure.

And even if things really went that way, as long as he switched personalities wisely, he could probably avoid those awkward moments of disagreement.

It all came down to how well he used them.

"There's still 890 Universal Points left. Keeping over 500 for emergencies should be more than enough… Let's use a few more to try my luck."

Glancing at his personal panel, Raymond couldn't resist the urge to spend more and decided to redeem three more Bronze Character Cards in one go.

"System, redeem three Bronze Character Cards—"

Soon, three new Bronze-tier cards appeared in his inventory.

[Would you like to activate the Bronze Character Cards now?]

[Yes / No]

"All of them!" Raymond answered without hesitation.

[Bronze Character Card activating...]

[Bronze Sub-personality — Hokuto Five Elements Fist Exorcist, activated successfully!]

[Origin background: Hokuto Five Elements Fist Exorcist, from the Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons world. Can use fist techniques to mimic attacks of different monsters. Known as one of the Three Great Exorcists along with Prince of Emptiness and Heavenly Broken Foot!]

[Bronze Character Card activating...]

[Bronze Sub-personality — 'Boss of the Underground Culinary World' Livebearer, activated successfully!]

[Origin background: 'Boss of the Underground Culinary World' Livebearer, from the Toriko world. Ranked 17th among world chefs, owner of a food casino, has the skill to absorb others' memories, and masters many amazing knife skills that combine cooking and combat!]

[Bronze Character Card activating...]

[Bronze Sub-personality — 'HellBlazer' John Constantine, activated successfully!]

[Origin background: 'HellBlazer' John Constantine, from the DC universe, one of the most famous magicians in DC, a walking encyclopedia of magic!]

!!!

Raymond felt his heartbeat pause for a moment!

When he saw the first activated sub-personality was the Hokuto Five Elements Fist Exorcist from the Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons world, his heart didn't react much, because this one's strength wasn't very impressive.

Although he was known as one of the Three Great Exorcists alongside Prince of Emptiness, his power was clearly weaker, and his attack style was too simple with no uniqueness.

There was no need to compare him to Tao Pai Pai's sub-personality. Even against Kuro's sub-personality, he had no advantage.

His only bright spot might be that he was an experienced exorcist. If Raymond ran into some supernatural cases later, maybe he could be useful.

But most of the time, he wouldn't matter much. No need to focus on him.

The second sub-personality activated was Livebearer from the Toriko world, and he was definitely much more useful than the first.

First of all, just his cooking skills alone were very practical!

Even though Livebearer was a crime boss in the Toriko world, his cooking skill was undeniable—otherwise, he wouldn't rank 17th on the world chef leaderboard.

That's the Toriko world!

Even a chef ranked 100th there could beat the so-called top chefs in this world easily, let alone someone in the top twenty like Livebearer.

Setting aside his strength, just thinking about his cooking made Raymond feel it was worth it.

When he saw this sub-personality, he even pictured himself using it often to satisfy his appetite in the future.

Life is not just survival; you can't always just focus on leveling up.

Besides, Livebearer wasn't just a top chef—his amazing knife skills also had many strange effects.

For example, he could instantly cut someone's pain nerves, or use his knife work to control someone's hormones to some extent, and more.

These skills could save lives.

In short, he could fight and heal, but cooking was his best skill.

However, one Livebearer sub-personality wasn't enough to make Raymond feel his heart skip a beat.

After all, even the previous Akainu sub-personality hadn't done that. Livebearer's couldn't either.

What really made his heart stop for a moment was the third activated sub-personality—

The infamous John Constantine!!!
