I exhaled, fighting the heat rushing through my chest the moment I saw her.
I told myself to focus on tonight's event. To remember it was all a façade. To remember my own words—never fall in love.
Because love demands protection. And I knew I didn't have that in me.
But deep inside, my heart screamed:
Tonight. She is yours.
It felt wrong—this sense of possession I'd never felt before.
And when she looked up and smiled, I knew then...I was ruined.
"Anthony," she said, and the sound of my name from her lips felt like ice against my skin.
She glanced at my hair, then met my gaze.
Eyes like blue crystal dusted with moonlight.
They softened when they landed on me.
