Chapter 26 - 25

The Evans house

Arthur was sitting in the garage in the evening, typing something on the computer. He was also taking notes and soldering something at the same time. The brown-haired man was literally doing several things at once.

«Man, two or three extra pairs of hands and it would be a lot easier," he said, drinking a mug of cocoa and caramel.

After that, Evans started soldering something. True to his word he was suddenly distracted by the door opening. On the threshold to the garage from the house stood Laura. She was wearing a white pyjama top and pyjama trousers.

«What are you doing here...? - Kinney asked.

«I'm getting ready for the Fair tomorrow," he replied.

«What are you going to show? - she asked.

«You'll see tomorrow, but aren't you participating? - Evans asked.

«No, I'm on Flash's team.... - replied Laura.

«Oh yeah? Okay... It's easier for me," the brown-haired boy went back to his computer and started typing quickly.

«Go to bed in an hour, I'll come back and check on you," she said. - It's 0:30 and you're awake.....

«Okay," Arthur replied, not taking his eyes off the computer.

Kinney sighed and went back to sleep.

Morning

Aria stood in the kitchen preparing breakfast.

«Good morning - Laura yawned as she entered the kitchen. - Where is Arthur? Is he still asleep?

«No, he's been up for an hour and he's still soldering and programming something," replied Miss Evans.

«Oh, yeah? - Kinney asked and was about to head for the garage.

«Good morning again," said Arthur, who entered the kitchen, looking cheerful. He had a backpack on his back, which was bigger than usual.

«Were you asleep? - she asked.

«Well, yes, you said so yourself, sistur," the brown-haired man replied. - And I don't want to screw up because I didn't get enough sleep.

«Well, that's right, Kinney said.

«Okay, here's an express quick breakfast for Arthur - Aria put out a plate of what looked like Japanese dorayaki. - And a regular breakfast for Laura - she put an omuraisu on the plate.

«Thanks, Mum - the brown-haired boy took the dorayaki and started eating quickly. - Sorry, I'm running away.

«Good luck! - Aria shouted, smiling.

Laura, on the other hand, sat down and started eating her breakfast normally.

Arthur was quietly assembling his invention for the exhibition in the gymnasium. It was some kind of machine that looked like a small reactor.

«Arthur! - he heard and turned round.

His neighbour was Gwen.

«Hi," she smiled.

«Hi, I guess we're neighbours again? - Evans asked.

«Yeah," the blonde replied, attaching some sensors to an elastic suit with gloves sewn on.

«What's that you've got there? - He asked.

«A secret - she smiled again.

«Interesting... Well, I'll see you when you're being evaluated," Evans said, and then began to connect the wires to the rig.

«Arthur! - he heard again and turned round.

It was Peter.

«Are you ready to lose the intelligence contest? - Parker asked.

«Peter, I'm no dumber than you, so I'm not even talking about losing," Arthur replied, making adjustments.

«Actually, I'm going to win," Harry said.

«Osborne, just because your father is among those being evaluated doesn't mean you're going to win.

«I'm not counting on it, I just know that my invention will be better," replied Osborn.

«What is this nonsense? - they heard and turned round.

In front of them stood a guy in his twenties with dark blond hair, fair skin and green eyes. He was dressed in a black turtleneck, trousers with a belt and boots.

«You're just primitive, he said.

«What are you going to be? - Arthur asked.

«What? I am Otto Octavius - one of Oscorp's best workers - he answered.

«And what have you forgotten here then? - Arthur asked.

«I've come to prove it - said Otto, and then he noticed Arthur's rig. - What is it? I've never seen such a thing in my life....

Artur ignored him and continued to make the necessary adjustments.

«Stop ignoring me, what is this machine? - Octavius asked.

«The fruit of 64 hours of work - Arthur replied, pressing the last button. - It works.

«Hmmm... Just a collection of junk, for what purpose - Otto headed for his place of work.

«Listen, don't piss me off! The polarity should be like this! - Arthur heard and looked at another neighbouring seat.

«No, you've got it all wrong! - shouted a guy with dark skin, short-cropped dark hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans with a belt and sneakers.

«What?! How did you-- Ugh! You're pissing me off! - replied a girl with dark skin, dark hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a dark green waistcoat over a white t-shirt, jeans and sneakers.

«Look, why don't you yell somewhere else? There's kind of people working here... - he said.

«А?! - The duo looked at him.

«It's not my fault this fool got the polarity mixed up and our machine to charge our batteries doesn't work! - shouted the guy, pointing at the girl.

«What?! You're the one who messed it up and she's out of power! - she replied.

Arthur looked at their machine and saw that it wasn't plugged into a socket. A drop of sweat rolled down Evans' head.

«Did you realise you didn't have it plugged in? - He asked.

And then they looked at the socket.

«Didn't you plug it in? - asked the girl.

«I thought you had switched it on, he replied.

Arthur, on the other hand, went back to his work. The brown-haired man plugged in the battery and out of the corner of his eye he noticed Lorna, who was also doing some kind of installation. Noticing him, she smiled, waving. Evans waved back, also smiling. He took the prepared ball of metal and placed it in the rig. The guy switched it on and the ball rose fifteen centimetres into the air above the bottom of the rig. The electric current from the top and bottom of the rig began to flow into it. It was over in a couple of minutes and Arthur picked up the sphere. The brown-haired man took the special cable his hands had created. It had a suction cup like a medical suction cup on one side and a charging cable on the other. Evans glued the sphere on and plugged the charger into the phone. It's charging.

«Hello, Arthur. - He heard from behind him and turned round sharply, shrieking. - Sorry, sorry. - It was Elena.

«Don't scare me like that.

«Well, I apologised, she said. - What are you going to introduce?

«Charge - he answered.

«What? - asked the white-haired woman.

Arthur took the phone from her and plugged it in.

«And how...? - she looked at the sphere, which was instead of a battery.

«My installation charges any object with energy, which can then be used - Arthur answered, but then added: - On people I have not tested it yet and will not. And what are you preparing for the judges?

«A secret - Lena smiled. - See you later - she headed towards her seat.

Artur, on the other hand, smiled, returning to his work.

Hallicarrier

Aria was sitting at Shields' computer, looking for something.

«For someone who no longer works for S.H.I.E.L.D., you come here a lot. - Said Nick Fury as he approached her. - Did you take Taskmaster's words seriously?

«He certainly didn't lie to me. And recent events have shown that Sigma is very well aware of me and my family. - Aria replied glumly.

She was watching footage of Spectrum, Spider-Man and Laura fighting Bansi and Hornet. Abruptly Evans brought part of the image closer and let it through the filter.

«Did you find something? - Nick asked.

«Yeah, this... - The brown-haired woman pointed to the corner of the building.

A hand was faintly visible from there.

«That's it... - said Aria. - I don't know who, but someone is following my son and that someone is at school.

«Aria, I think you're being paranoid...'' - said Fury.

«Paranoia? - The brown-haired woman asked, then typed on the computer and pictures of Hornet and Bansi appeared on the screen. - They knew exactly where my son was studying! And they were able to attack unexpectedly!

«Maybe you're right. Or just tired... - he replied.

«You know, I've learnt a lot in my career, and that paranoia is a sixth sense.

«I'll take your word for it...

***

All of the exhibitors stood in their seats. Suddenly, the gym doors opened and everyone turned around. There were top executives from the companies and prominent scientists. Among them were Tony Stark, Norman Osborne, Emma Frost, Max Modell, Allan Beamont and other geniuses and rich people.

«Hopefully there will be someone worthwhile here - Arthur heard and looked at the judges.

He examined them with his eyes and recognised only Tony, Norman and Max, for he had seen them in the futura. Evans assessed his chances, considering those who were among the judges.

«'Well, let's start the evaluation,' said Tony Stark, taking off his dark glasses.

And then all the exhibitors began to prepare their work.

To be continued...
