Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Wish

Originally, the fire at Frypan Mountain was supposed to be extinguished by Master Roshi.

However, Uchiha Hikari swallowed three or four soldier pills and unleashed over thirty Water Wall jutsu in one go, creating a massive flood that doused the flames and saved the Ox-King's castle. In return, she received the Dragon Ball and several chests of treasure as thanks.

—In the original timeline, all that treasure had been obliterated by Master Roshi's Kamehameha.

Uchiha Hikari accepted it without guilt.

The only real trouble was the seventh Dragon Ball—

The one held by Emperor Pilaf.

Unsure of Pilaf's usual hiding spot, Uchiha Hikari pretended to be overpowered, allowing herself, Goku, and the newly recruited Yamcha to be captured. Then she activated Susanoo, smashed through the prison walls, located Pilaf's trio mid-summoning, subdued them, and tossed them aside.

"Finally, all seven!"

On the lawn at the center of Pilaf's castle,

the seven Dragon Balls were arranged together, glowing in resonance as surging magical energy pulsed within them.

"Go on, Hikari! Make your wish!"

Bulma gave her an encouraging look.

Nearby, Goku, Oolong, and the others watched curiously, arms crossed.

Uchiha Hikari nodded in thanks, stepped forward, and took a deep breath.

"Come forth, Shenron!"

With those words,

a gale erupted.

The Dragon Balls hummed ominously, their light intensifying as thick storm clouds churned overhead, plunging the world into darkness. Only before the group did a massive, luminous figure emerge—a majestic, emerald-scaled dragon coiling in the sky, radiating overwhelming power.

"Mortal who has gathered the seven Dragon Balls, speak your wish."

A deep voice echoed through the air.

"Any wish may be granted… but only one."

(You're sure any wish?)

Hearing the familiar line, Uchiha Hikari decided to test it.

"I wish to become a Super Saiyan."

Silence.

Shenron: "That… cannot be done."

"Huh? I thought you said any wish!"

Bulma blinked in confusion. "And what's a 'Super Saiyan'?"

Uchiha Hikari wasn't surprised.

She didn't bother asking about Cell or Frieza's abilities either. Instead, she posed a more critical question:

"Lord Shenron, before I make my wish, I'd like to ask—can you enhance a person's potential for growth?"

"Yes."

Shenron nodded, then added, "But only within certain limits."

"Limits?"

"Indeed. They are bound by the rules of my creation."

(So… tied to Kami's power?)

If that was the case, the Saiyan wish was off the table. Kami's strength was roughly on par with an average Saiyan, and after splitting from King Piccolo, he'd weakened significantly. Any potential boost would naturally be limited.

(Maybe in the future…)

(I'll have to visit Planet Namek.)

After a moment's thought, Uchiha Hikari pointed to her eyes.

"Then, I wish for these eyes—while retaining their current ability, 'Yasaka Magatama'—to evolve into the Rinnegan."

There were multiple ways to counter the blindness caused by the Mangekyō Sharingan, and evolving into the Rinnegan was the most convenient. The Rinnegan carried no risk of vision loss and granted even greater ocular powers, ensuring she could thrive well into Naruto's endgame.

But…

Shenron: "That… cannot be done."

"…?"

Uchiha Hikari stiffened. "Why not?"

"I do not comprehend the concept of a 'Rinnegan.'"

Shenron's voice rumbled. "Moreover, your wish involves higher-order laws beyond my reach."

"..."

Uchiha Hikari frowned.

The first part made sense—the Rinnegan was foreign to this world. But the latter…

(Does the Rinnegan violate this universe's rules? Is it beyond Kami's power to create? Or is preserving 'Yasaka Magatama' incompatible with the evolution?)

If it was the first issue…

(If I brought Nagato here, showed Shenron the Rinnegan, and asked it to replicate the process—would that work?)

She weighed the risks of abandoning "Yasaka Magatama" for the Rinnegan versus choosing a different wish.

Meanwhile,

Bulma and the others were growing skeptical.

Though they didn't understand Uchiha Hikari's wishes, Shenron's repeated failures made them question the Dragon Balls' legitimacy.

Even Shenron seemed embarrassed.

"Mortal… do you have a more conventional wish? World domination, perhaps?"

(So in your eyes, ruling the world is easier than getting a Rinnegan?)

Uchiha Hikari resisted the urge to facepalm.

Finally, she spoke again.

"Then… I wish for a regenerative ability that allows me to recover from any physical injury—including vision damage—instantly, without side effects, and restore myself to peak condition."

She stared intently at Shenron.

If granted, this would essentially give her a budget version of Majin Buu's regeneration, letting her spam Mangekyō abilities without going blind—just like Obito Uchiha with Hashirama's cells. Plus, rapid self-healing was universally useful, replacing the need for medical ninjutsu.

This time,

Shenron almost seemed relieved.

"That is simple."

A radiant light burst from its maw, enveloping Uchiha Hikari.

Warmth flooded her body, seeping into every vein and cell. Her eyes tingled strangely, as if soaking in a soothing bath.

"Your wish is granted."

"Farewell."

With that, Shenron dissolved back into the seven Dragon Balls, which shot off in different directions.

Goku and Yamcha scrambled after them, trying to catch at least one.

Uchiha Hikari, meanwhile, immediately drew a kunai—

and slashed her own arm.
