Emelia stared at the door after it closed behind Liam, his words echoing in her mind longer than she liked.
'You don't have to do everything alone, you know.'
It was a nice sentiment. But in this house, nice sentiments didn't amount to much.
She glanced at the invitation draft again, then the guest list sprawled across the table. It was done—at least for now.
She had given herself the rest of the afternoon to breathe before the real prep would begin tomorrow.
Stretching her back, Emelia left her room and stepped into the hallway, the air heavy with sunlight and distant movement.
The house wasn't quiet, but it wasn't lively either. Everyone seemed to be doing their own thing. Avoiding each other.
Or, more specifically—avoiding her.
Not all of them. Liam had practically hovered all morning.
