Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Calm Belt and First Island in Grandline

As Koa decided to head toward the Grand Line, he already knew what needed to be done. He took out a map—a direct copy of the one used by Scopper Gaban—planning to take a shortcut through the Calm Belt. He didn't want to travel through Reverse Mountain without a proper ship.

Day by day, the stolen ship drifted closer until, finally, they reached a place of total calm. There were no waves, no wind—only stillness. Koa knew they had entered the Calm Belt. He could feel the presence of countless Sea Kings lurking beneath the ship, trying to attack from below.

"Boss, what do we do now?" Greenbull asked, curious about Koa's next move. Kuzan simply watched with great interest, while Joichiro was excited by the prospect of discovering new ingredients from the sea.

After a moment of thought, Koa turned to Greenbull.

"Greenbull, summon a plant you think could serve as a propeller. Make it rotate and push us in the direction I point. I'll handle the rest."

Greenbull did as instructed, creating a giant sunflower with spinning petals to function as a propeller. However, the movement of the ship caught the attention of nearby Sea Kings, who soon began surfacing, agitated.

Koa reacted instantly, knocking them out with ease.

"Kuzan, freeze them. We'll have a feast later," Koa said.

Kuzan responded by freezing a section of the sea, preserving the floating Sea Kings in a thick layer of ice.

"Greenbull, make some vines into a net. We'll drag the frozen ones along, except for one—Joichiro looks eager to cook it," Koa added.

Greenbull quickly summoned and manipulated vines, forming them into a massive net. He tossed it overboard, securing the Sea Kings, while Joichiro prepared to cook the one he had chosen, clearly thrilled by the rare meat.

------------

As weeks passed, this became the routine for the Koa Pirates—constantly attacked by Sea Kings while sailing through the Calm Belt. But one day, things began to change. The waves grew taller, and the wind finally began to stir. Suddenly, their ship surged forward in a direction they couldn't control.

Koa, however, didn't resist it. He simply let the current take them, curious to see if fate would steer them toward something exciting. The Log Pose hadn't picked up any islands yet, but Koa could feel it—they were getting close. And after a few hours, the Log Pose finally locked onto a steady direction.

"Alright, boys! We're about to land on an island for the first time in over a month. Look alive," Koa announced, snapping his crew out of their boredom. His words ignited a wave of energy across the ship—everyone was eager to feel solid ground again.

They all came out to the deck, eyes anxiously scanning the horizon. Koa began issuing orders with calm precision. He directed Greenbull to increase the speed of the propeller while assigning Kuzan to lookout duty. Koa returned to studying the map, ensuring they stayed on course toward the island the Log Pose was now pointing to.

The mist cleared at last, and Koa's ship slid into sight of a rugged coastline dotted with towering ferns and massive, lumbering shapes.

"This is it," Koa said, voice low with excitement. "Little Garden."

From the deck, thundered herds of dinosaurs grazing on prehistoric foliage.

Greenbull leaned over the rail, eyes wide. "Boss… I never thought I'd see living dinosaurs!"

Kuzan, perched at the forecastle, scanned the horizon. "No calm belt here. We'll need sails again."

Koa turned to Greenbull. "Switch back. Summon something to fasten the sails—give us forward thrust." Greenbull's brow furrowed, then a massive vine-wrapped beam sprouted behind the mast. He wove smaller tendrils to lash the sail's edge, instantly filling it with wind.

A roar echoed from the forest. Joichiro snatched up a small notebook. "I want samples of those giant ferns—and whatever volcanic mushrooms grow near those statues!"

Koa grinned. "Keep your knife ready. This place isn't a nature museum."

As they coasted toward a sheltered cove, the two stone giants loomed overhead, moss-covered arms frozen mid–clash. Between their feet, Pteranodons wheeled in the sky. The crew disembarked onto warm sand fringed by cycads and cyclical tides.

Koa activated his Observation Haki. Beneath the leaves, he detected two giant presences—probably marooned explorers like the infamous Dorry and Brogy.

"Stay alert," he ordered. "We don't know who we'll meet."

Within minutes, a gigantic shadow streaked overhead—a Carnotaurus thundered out of the trees. Kuzan's eyes narrowed. With a single thrust of his arm, he froze the dinosaur's path, creating an ice ramp that sent it tumbling safely aside.

Greenbull sprang forward, wrapping sap-filled vines around the creature's legs to ensure it couldn't follow. The dinosaur thrashed, then collapsed into a docile heap—more curious than hostile.

Joichiro laughed, already rummaging through his satchel for salt and a small brazier. "Fresh dinosaur meat… now that will make a broth!"

Koa sheathed his axe and looked north, toward where two giant figures appeared on a distant ridge—giants in battle-worn armor. "Looks like we'll have spectators," he said.

As the sun dipped low, Koa gathered his crew. "Tomorrow, we explore those statues and make contact. Tonight, we rest—and gather our prey."

They set camp under the giants' shadow, the roar of prehistoric life echoing around them. Ahead lay the adventure of Little Garden—dinosaurs, dueling giants, and the promise of legends waiting to be reshaped.

----------

A thunderous roar shattered the dawn's silence as the nearby volcano erupted, sending ash and fire skyward. Almost instantly, two colossal figures sprang into motion atop the twin peaks—Dorry and Brogy, the legendary giants, locked in their eternal duel. Each colossal strike from their swords sent shockwaves rippling across Little Garden, rattling stones and stirring the prehistoric beasts below.

On the beach, Koa's crew stared in awe. Greenbull's eyes went wide—this was the first time he had ever seen giants, and even he had never imagined anything so immense. Kuzan and Joichiro shared stunned looks; neither had witnessed giants in person before.

Koa stepped forward, then shook his head with a wry smile. "Joichiro, prepare breakfast—but keep it quick. We mustn't interrupt these two warriors."

Joichiro nodded, already heading back toward camp to gather ingredients and light a fire. Kuzan and Greenbull continued to watch in fascination, eager to study the giants' fighting styles as Dorry's swing clashed against Brogy's block, each impact echoing like thunder through the island's canyons.

Leaving his companions to their vigil, Koa turned inland to scout for hidden hot springs—perfect for drying off after their swim through the Calm Belt. As he walked away, he couldn't help but feel the thrill of adventure: on Little Garden, even breakfast came with front-row seats to legend.
