Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

The next day, train station, 9 AM

Diego and Sophia carefully walk towards the train door with Sophie having a backpack and Diego carrying his suitcases in the crook of his arms. His eyes wide, afraid someone would recognize him. "Stay sharp, there might be some cops here." He panics, unable to finish his sentence, and holds Sophie's hand dragging her behind a kiosk. Turns out they were selling souvenirs there and Diego raises his hand to steal one that caught his eye, the cuckoo clock. Like the kleptomaniac he is.

"What is it?" Sophie whispers after she gained her conscious back.

He turns to peek from behind the kiosk newspaper stands. "Darcy palmer and her loyal puppy Aaron park." Sophie squints, doesn't remember these names. "Who?" She asks. Diego wiggles his finger for her to come and peek. Darcy and Aaron were waiting in the line to get on the train.

Darcy gracefully standing with her hands rested on top of her cane, coat perfectly standing still on her shoulders along with long brown hair, high heel boots making her taller. A stupid smile spreads on Diego's face and suddenly a sharp sound makes him jolt. He turns and shoots Sophie a glare who is fisting at the bag of chips she stole from the kiosk. "Ssssoryyyy." She grins nervously.

"Make that sound one more time and we'll have a trip to Las Vegas' jail instead!" He presses lips in annoyance, mostly angry because of his clingy thoughts. "I swear to god I heard a Mexican accent…" He hears Darcy say and Panics again. He must've been a little loud.

"We have to get in line or else we'll miss the train!" It's dangerous to get out of the hide-out but they can't stay there forever. He picks Sophie up, "What do you see?" He questions and she narrows her eyes. "Hmmmm…" She sees Aaron tell Darcy that they should get in and they do. "Yep, they are in!" She rogers.

"Great!" He puts her back on her feet and they put on a disguise, fake mustache and nose, before running towards the train. The wheels of train starts spinning very slow and little by little they speed up. They run by the train, Diego picks Sophie up and helps her climb the balcony and then jumps in himself using the help of fence. They open the door quietly and sneak in, hopefully Darcy and Aaron weren't there.

Hours pass and sky turns a reddish shade as the sun goes down. In the hallway, between the closed doors of compartments, the chandeliers swaying making clank sounds. Darcy and Aaron are chilling in their own compartment, Aaron speaking and Darcy nodding with a smile. The smoke of the cigarette between her fingers finds its way out through the window as it burns.

Las Vegas, Opera house, 8:00 P.M

Everything's so golden and velvet red and brightening yet too dark for people to find their seats as Darcy and Aaron walk past them to the balcony chief reserved. They walk up stairs and find their seats.

"What a great view up here. we should thank the chief later." Aaron say's with so much enthusiasm Darcy had never seen before. She is too busy scanning people that she forgot to respond to Aaron. His smile fades, as if he senses her being nervous. "Ma'am?!" His voice snaps her back to reality. She blinks a few times to remember what he said and nods. "What, where, who- uh... I mean; indeed." They both smile at each other and seat.

Miss Palmer doesn't seem to be into Opera or fancy things. What mostly brings out the excitement in her is a little violence with lots of mystery. Aaron thinks to himself. He's been her apprentice for more than 7 years and she is just getting to know him. "Here they come!" The crows cheer as the curtains are pulled up.

"Focus and let the music caress your soul, ma'am." Aaron smiles and Darcy nods smiling back. Internally cursing though. She notices chief's daughter, wearing a velvet red dress, as the curtains are pulled. "This is going to be your last opera! Make the most of it!" She is just trying to be nice. (She isn't.) She starts singing (((screaming))) and Darcy claws at her seat, feeling something scratching her insides and ears like fork. The displacement of air caused by her voice pushing their hair back like it's slicked back on purpose.

Despite Darcy, Aaron is enjoying. "Relax and listen carefully miss Palmer! Clear your mind and let the music overwhelm you." He closes his eyes and takes relaxing deep breath. Most of the audience are satisfied, actually.

Is he actually enjoying with this? Darcy looks at Aaron, wondering. Aaron is uncontrollably smiling which makes her smile too.

To be honest, sometimes I envy him. She thinks. He is always so cool and collected in the worst situations. That's whatmakes him a wonderful detective…

Her smile deepens, head resting against the chair. After a few minutes, the show is over. Musicians stand next to the singer and they all bow in front of people who stand up and clap for them.

He is just as complicated for me as my lessons are to him. We are actually…

"Bravaaa!" Aaron stands and claps. If he hadn't handed the bouquet to chief, he would throw every single flower at her right now. Darcy claps as well, looking at Aaron in chock.

…each other's apprentice…
